  1. Rhinoceros 3D

  2. What is Rhinoceros 3D? • Rhinoceros (Rhino) is a stand-alone, commercial NURBS-based 3-D modeling tool, developed by Robert McNeel & Associates.

  3. What is NURBS? • Non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) is a mathematical model commonly used in computer graphics for generating and representing curves and surfaces. B-spline is a spline function that has minimal support with respect to a given degree, smoothness, and domain partition. A fundamental theorem states that every spline function of a given degree, smoothness, and domain partition, can be represented as a linear combination of B-splines of that same degree and smoothness, and over that same partition

  4. What is it used for? • The software is commonly used for industrial design, architecture, , jewelry design, automotive design, CAD / CAM, as well as the multimedia and graphic design industries

  12. Why is Rhino Popular • Rhino's increasing popularity is based on its diversity, multi-disciplinary functions, relatively low cost, and its ability to import and export over 30 file formats, which allows Rhino to act as a 'converter' tool between programs in a design workflow.

  13. What is the relevance to designers? • To be an effective designer today, you need tools to quickly develop your designs and accurately communicate them to everyone in the product research, development, marketing, and manufacturing or construction process.

  14. How does it work? • Start with a sketch, drawing, physical model, scan data, or only an idea—Rhino provides the tools to accurately model and document your designs ready for rendering, animation, drafting, engineering, analysis, and manufacturing or construction.

  15. Then what? • Rhino can create, edit, analyze, document, render, animate, and translate NURBS curves, surfaces, and solids with no limits on complexity, degree, or size.

  16. What’s so special about Rhino? Uninhibitedfree-form 3-Dmodeling. Tools like those found only in products costing 20 to 50 times more. Accurately model any shape you can imagine. Extreme precision. Design, prototype, engineer, analyze, document, and manufacture anything of any size no matter how small or how large.

  17. 2 Good things about Rhino • Short learning curve. Focus on design and visualization without being distracted by the software. • Speed. Even on an ordinary laptop computer Rhino is fast. No special hardware is required.

  18. TASK • Open Rhinoceros from your computer’s desktop. • Select Help from the top menu • Choose Learn Rhino>Tutorials • Click on the word Introduction and follow along to create the models.
