Controversial topic • Whether it reduces inequality by providing more opportunities for persons from disadvantage strata or for those who are already privileged. • One side: higher education expansion when it occurs through hierarchy differentiation , a process of division, members of working class are diverted from elite opportunities.(Brint and Karabel 1989) • Other side: lower tier post secondary schooling represents enhanced opportunity for lower class people(Dougherty 1994)

  7. My opinion • Increase the inequality education opportunities • First, education process: transition point. Job market or higher education. • Second, private institution is the main form of higher education in contemporary Korea • Third, increase in the rates of educational participation among women tend to restrict the extent of participation among people from lower classes. • Fourth: the education level of families and relatives

  10. Conclusion • In a word, the inequality can be reduced if we take some measures but never be removeddue to the complex social factor.
