  1. Mathematics in a Changing World Our school’s vision for a creative and challenging mathematics curriculum.

  2. The Medstead Vision • At Medstead C of E Primary School we are aiming to provide a creative learning environment, where everyone takes responsibility for their own learning. • The school community values creativity, opportunities for learning in the environment, the inclusion of all pupils, and creative use of ICT, to ensure that children attending the school receive a challenging, exciting and motivating educational experience. The importance placed on these aspects is also recognised as making our school special. • The personal development and well being of children and adults is held in high regard; we believe this reflects the Christian character of our school, and must sit alongside a rigorous drive for high standards. • The leadership of the school is working to ensure that all pupils make good progress, fulfilling their potential; and that teaching and learning is good and often outstanding. • The school is working to fully develop its partnerships with parents and the wider community; to ensure there is a strong home-school learning agreement, to reflect the school motto “Together we learn”.

  3. Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world.

  4. These tools include logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways.

  5. Mathematics is important in everyday life. Different cultures have contributed to the development and application of mathematics. Today, the subject transcends cultural boundaries and its importance is universally recognised.

  6. Mathematics is a creative discipline. It can stimulate moments of pleasure and wonder when a pupil solves a problem for the first time, discovers a more elegant solution to that problem, or suddenly sees hidden connections.

  7. The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) agenda recognises the importance of these subjects as essential tools for competing in the global economy and aims to encourage young people in schools to continue study in these subjects and pursue careers in this sector.

  8. QCA aims to identify clear cross-curricular links between these subjects and to exemplify good practice to help teachers identify where they can enrich the STEM curriculum.

  9. And what does that all look like here?

  10. How can I best support my child? Questions, questions, questions… Making it real… Lifelong learning…
