  1. COD (Corrugated Optic Duct) . 2008.03. Proposal by KSP Co., Ltd. .

  2. What is this? • ¶. Multiple Channel Cable Duct • COD is unified inner pipe and outer pipe. How and which size inner pipe type can be possible to combination as customer’s any request. • ¶. Material of Polyethylene(PE) • Both inner and outer pipe are made of PE. It is flexible and can be coiled over 500m. That means COD is possible to easy transport and reduce labor cost. This can be fast installation and down the construction cost. • ¶.Telecommunication Company • This new product was proven their great economics and convenient installation than any other system by KT, SK and Etc. 2

  4. Specification • Tolerance • Duct O.D : ± 3.0 mm • Duct THK : ± 1.0 mm • Duct I.D : ± 2.0 mm • Sub Duct O.D : ± 2.0 mm • Sub Duct THK : ± 1.0 mm • Sub Duct I.D : + 2.0 mm We can also offer specialty model customized to customers’ specifications 4

  5. Manufacturing Process 4.Coiling Sub duct 5.Assemble Sub ducts 6.Extruding Outer duct 7.Cooling COD 8.Hauling COD 9. Coiling COD 1.Extruding Sub duct 2.Marking on Sub duct 3. Hauling Sub duct 5

  6. Services • High Speed Internet • Superhighway networks • Cable Television • CCTV on the express highway • Video Phone Communication • Downtown / Business quarters infrastructure • Undersea’s infrastructure 6

  7. Advantages 1) Easy installation The inner ducts have longitudinal ridges on their inside surfaces and provide a low coefficient of friction, allowing fiber optic cables and other type cables or wires to be easily pulled through them. 2) Reducing labor cost COD allows an overall reduction in delivery and cable installation costs. The manifold configuration of COD insures high structural integrity over the entire length of the conduit sections. 3) Reduced connecting points between the duct segments A reduced number of connections can be reduced working cost and minimized the possibility of leakage. 7

  8. Advantages 4) Great flexibility COD made of polyethylene, therefore has great flexibility. It can be easy and speedy installation. Even though like a mountain area, curve section or narrow section, COD can be possible easy and fast works. 5) Crushing strength & advanced safety The COD withstand external pressures on its outer surface 3 times greater than conventional plastic ducts. Its strength and flexibility have proven to provide an added measure of protection when installed in uneven terrain, underground spaces and on bridge are connections. 6) Various combination of inner-ducts Various combinations of sub-ducts are available so that duct runs can be customized to meet your needs. 8

  13. Previous Installation System(PVC Duct System) Trench Excavation PVC Duct connecting every6m Insert each sub duct Insert pulling rope by manpower Insert optic fiber cable by manpower 13

  14. Comparison of Working Flow COD PVC duct Trench space have to consideration if the worker can be inside for their working. Trench Trench with related works Since PVC duct only 6m, the workers have to carry and lay every each 6m duct. Laying COD Laying PVC duct PVC duct have to connect using their coupling every 6m between 2 manholes. Refill trench & Close the work Connect PVC duct Insert inner pipe Cut down working expenses “COD makes just 3 working steps” Every inner pipes put inside the PVC duct by manpower Refill trench & Close the work 1.Fill sand and refill soil 2.Compact paving 3.Disposal of left over soils 14

  15. Practical Using of Inner Space 15

  16. No. of Connecting Points • Connecting point (500~600 m length manhole to manhole) • Connecting point (2000 m length manhole to manhole) 16

  17. Max. O.D of Optic Fiber Cable • The maximum diameter of Fiber Optic Cable to insert into the sub duct is as much as 80% of sub duct diameter while conventional PVC can only house up to 50% at maximum • Efficiency : 160% • Usable Fiber Optic Cable Outside Diameter (Unit : mm) 17

  18. Excavation Quantities • As the required trench width is being required much less than that of the conventional method. • Less than 60% of conventional system • COD • PVC + PE inner pipe 18

  19. Damage from Earth quake The Case of KOBE, JAPAN Earth quake The date of occurrence : JAN. 17 1995 (7.2 Richter Scale)  The Extent of Damage - Casualties : Death 6,432 / Injury 40,000 - Property : ¥ 9,000 Billion ($ 69 Billion) COD DAMAGE RATE IS “0 (ZERO)” Case / 10 Km COD 19

  20. 7. Final Conclusion Length of installation per a day if you use COD : 3km/day 20
