Bell Ringer • Solve the following equations using inverse operations. SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. • 1. 3x+5= 20 • 2. -4f-4=12 • 3. g/7 +8 = 10 • 4. k/-2- 10= 0
Quick Review • The last lesson was on Simple 2 step equations. • They require 2 steps • 1. Use inverses of addition and subtraction • 2. Use inverses of multiplication and division • We do this because: • Following reverse order of operations.
Two Floored 2- step equations 2nd Floor Each problem has 2 “floors”. 1st Floor
Here’s how you solve • Get rid of the number farthest from the variable on the variable side first (In this case, The number on the 1st floor is farthest) • To do this, multiply both sides by the 1st floor. • After cancelling out, What is left is a 1-step equation. • Solve your 1 step equation.
Example x10 X 10 10 is what we need to cancel out Multiply both sides by 10. This is now a 1 step equation! Solve your equations X + 9 = -10 -9 -9 X = -19
x 7 x 7 K - 6 = -14 +6 +6 k = -8
What we are really doing… • Following the reverse order of operations • This is the same as saying: • (k-6)/7=-2
