  2. What is a Scientist? • A Scientist is a person • What makes someone a Scientist? • They make observations • They communicate clearly • They ask questions

  3. How can we make careful observations? • Draw what you see • Use tools • Write a description of what you see How do we draw what we see? • Do your best to draw it as close to the real thing as possible • Color it the way you see it • Include little details: like are there freckles on the babies face?

  4. What tools can we use? • Magnet • Notebook • Primary balance • Ruler • Safety goggles • Thermometer • Hand lens • Microscope • Beaker • Clock • Collecting net • Computer • Timer

  5. What do we write about? • What color is the object? • Is it big or small? • If it’s small what is similar to its size? • Example: It is around the size of a dime. • If it’s big what is similar to its size? • Example: It is around the size of a elephant. • Does it have a texture? • Does it feel hot or cold?

  6. What else do Scientists do? • They work with others • They sort and classify objects by size, shape, color, or another way • They use charts and graphs to show data • They compare the objects by measuring them

  7. A Scientist is a person • Can you be a Scientist? YES!! YOU CAN BE A SCIENTIST!! All of the things we learned about are techniques scientist use. We can use these in our classroom to be Junior Scientists.
