  5. Phonetics & Phonology Phonetics is concerned with the way we make, transmit, and receive speech sounds. There are three main branches of phonetics: articulatory, acoustic, and auditory. Phonology relates to the sound systems of languages and concerns itself with the way sounds relate to meaning in a given language.
