  4. Sin — Our Failure, God’s Victory

  5. Sin is “Every Man’s” Failure • You are not alone – Rom. 3:9-20 • Misery loves company, but there is no solace or comfort while living in sin!

Sin is “My” Failure • You are completely alone – Isa. 59:1-15 • To sin is to choose to be at enmity with God, Who wants nothing more than to love you as His child – Rom. 5:6-11; 8:5-8; Col. 1:21; Jas. 4:4 (cf. 2 Pet. 3:9; 1 Tim. 2:3-4) • To sin is to choose to be a child of Satan, and Satan will never love you – John 8:41-47 cf. 1 Pet. 5:8-9 (Luke 22:31; Luke 4:1-13) • Sin rightfully begets hopelessness, which makes us desperate for hope, though many struggle to see the hope that is set before them – Eph. 2:11-13; Heb. 6:18; 7:19 (cf. Psa. 51:1-19)

  7. Sin is “My” Failure • Thus comes the gospel of Jesus Christ, and reconciliation through it • The gospel is good news – Luke 2:8-14; 4:16-22 • Are you ashamed of it? – Rom. 1:16 • It is God’s redemptive message of reconciliation– Isa. 59:16-20; Rom. 3:21-26

  8. Hosea 13:14 14 “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.”
