  1. HELMAND GOOD NEWS STORY 23 Jan 2013Afghan Inform and Influence Method Training From 15 Jan 2013 to 23 Jan 2013 the AIIM Team taught a course in Delaram to 215th Corps, 4th BDE Religious Cultural Advisers and Public Affairs Officers. The AIIM Team had coordinated with the 4th BDE Adviser Team prior to the beginning of the course to set up a Shura at the District Center for the AIIM students. MAJ Shir Mohammad (ANA), the PAO commander, organized and planned the Shura. 10 students the Delaram District Governor (picture 1), and approximately 60-70 Elders from the local villages attended 4th BDE’s first Shura, that took place in the Delaram District Center. The ANA RCA’s led the Shura in prayer to begin. MAJ Mohammad Nawab, the 4th BDE Garrison RCA, delivered speech to start, detailing who the ANA are and what their mission is in Delaram. MAJ Shir Mohammad expanded on that by letting the people know that the ANA is here for the long-term. The ANA had an extremely positive response from the people. When back briefing the AIIM Team they stated; “at the beginning the locals seemed nervous and unsure of us, but after we started talking to them and telling people about ourselves they warmed up, and said that they would like to have more meetings and be able to get to know us better.” Of course once the ANA began passing out RBI the locals warmed up even more. 10 blankets, 120 radios, 30 soccer balls, and 50 flashlights were passed out. When asked if anything from the class helped the students in the shura the response was: “Influencing the key leaders will get them to influence their people, giving us the setting for our next meeting.” “If we show the people that we (ANA) are from the people and working for the people then we will accomplish our goals. The first step is to reach out and do something good as proof.” On the last day of class the AIIM Team took the students to the RIAB (Radio in a Box) and passed out radios to the students. Two of the students were trained on the function of the RIAB, then the students were allowed to broadcast messages that they had worked on in the class over the RIAB.
