  4. PHASES OF ELECTRICITY DEVELOPMENT • During the years 1945-1951, it was produced in average 10 KWH per resident. • In 1952, was put in operation the Hydropower Plant (HPP) of Selita, with installed power 5 MW. • In January 1958, was put in operation the HPP of Ulza, with installed power 25 MW. • In 1970, were put in operation HPP of Shkopeti, HPP of Bistrica I and HPP Bistrica II, with installed power 51.5 MW. • In 1971-1978, were put in operation HPP of Vau i Dejës and Fierza, 750 MW. • In 1985, was put in operation HPP of Koman, 600 MW.

  5. ELECTRICITY DEVELOPMENT PHASES • Actual situation 6 big HPP: 1426.5 MW 36 small HPP: 33.9 MW • Main generation base Cascade on Drini river: 1350 MW Cascade on Mati river: 49 MW Cascade on Bistrica river: 27.5 MW • Possibilities for water potentials utilization Theoretical potential energy: 4500 MW Exploited potential: 1465.5 MW

  7. DRINI RIVER MAIN RIVERS AND THEIR HYDROPOWER POTENTIAL IN ALBANIA • Drini river derives from Ohri lake of Macedonia running to Adriatic Sea • Hydropower potential : 1750 MW • On Drini river are actually constructed : • Vau i Dejes HPP, with installed capacity: 250 MW • Fierza HPP, with installed capacity: 500 MW • Komani HPP, with installed capacity: 600 MW • Project-proposals under the concession issue procedure: • Skavica HPP, with installed capacity 350 MW. It is an unsolicited proposal of TGK & Kinglor consortium. They are actually preparing Terms of Reference and standard documents for Skavica HPP bid. • Ashta HPP, with installed capacity 50 MW, is at the end of concession contract negotiations to the Austrian Verbund Company. VAU I DEJES HPP FIERZA HPP KOMAN HPP

  8. MAIN RIVERS AND THEIR HYDROPOWER POTENTIAL IN ALBANIA MATI RIVER • Mati river derives from Burreli and Peshkopia areas running to the Adriatic sea. • Hydropower potential: 112 MW • On Mati river, actually, are constructed: • Ulza HPP, with installed capacity 25 MW • Shkopeti HPP, with installed capacity 24 MW

  9. DEVOLLI RIVER MAIN RIVERS AND THEIR HYDROPOWER POTENTIAL IN ALBANIA • Devolli river derives from Devolli and Korca areas running to Adriatic Sea after its bundling with Osum river. • Hydropower potential: 350 MW • On Devolli river, actually, is constructed Banja HPP, with projected capacity 60 MW. It is not finished yet. There are only performed 40% of works before the year 1990. • Project-proposals under the concession issue procedure: Concession obtaining of HPP’s cascade on Devolli river by Austrian EVN AG Company.

  10. OSUMI RIVER MAIN RIVERS AND THEIR HYDROPOWER POTENTIAL IN ALBANIA • Osumi river is the main branch of Semani one. Its total length is 161 km. The water-accumulation surface is 2150 sq km and 828 m above the sea level. • Project-proposals under the concession issue procedure: It is under way working on technical and economic feasibility study of projects for HPP’s construction on Osumi river, which will be notified from the Albanian Government as solicited proposals.

  11. VJOSA RIVER MAIN RIVERS AND THEIR HYDROPOWER POTENTIAL IN ALBANIA • Vjosa River derives from Pindi mountains of Greece. • Hydropower potential:  400 MW • On Vjosa river actually is constructed Kalivaçi HPP, with installed capacity 90 MW, that has obtained the concession by BEG-Energy Company and Deutch-Bank. • Project-proposals under the concession issue procedure: It’s under way working on technical and economic feasibility study of projects for HPP’s construction on Vjosa river, which will be notified from the Albanian Government as solicited proposals.

  12. BISTRICA RIVER MAIN RIVERS AND THEIR HYDROPOWER POTENTIAL IN ALBANIA • Bistrica River derives from Delvina (Saranda), area and Blue Eye Spring Source running to Jonian Sea • On Bistrica river actually are constructed: • Bistrica 1 HPP, with installed capacity 20 MW • Bistrica 2 HPP, with installed capacity 5 MW

  13. SMALL HYDRO POWER PLANTS IN ALBANIA • There are 90 SHPP in Albania, with installed capacity from 20 kW to 9200 kW, which are constructed before the year 1990. Among them, are put in operation only 36 SHPP. • The average long life of SHPP is about 25 years. • SHPP’s equipment are made in Austria, Germany, China, Hungary and Italy. Some spare parts of them are made in Albania. Type of turbines are: Frencis, Pelton and Banki. • From all SHPP results: • 32 HPP, with installed capacity 24.4 MW have obtained the concession issue procedure. • 16 HPP, with installed capacity 2 MW are owned by private companies • 42 HPP, with installed capacity 12.5 MW are owned by state.
