  1. Xmile today • Xmile has been applied successfully in many countries all over the world since 1995 • Used by, several (energy) industries, road and shipping transport sectors, and the military • Oil companies market special Xmile- enriched fuels to meet the growing demand for high performance products

  2. Xmile benefits • Fuel and cost savings • Process and business improvement • Emission reduction

  3. Xmile and solids in suspension Addition of Xmile to fuel oil improves oil quality: • Enzymes in Xmile have a specific affinity for asphaltene micelles and saturated hydrocarbons • Enzymes in Xmile break up large asphaltenes to smaller units

  4. How does Xmile work? • Xmile converts hydrocarbon elements back into fuel • Xmile neutralised and catalysed the fuel • Lowering the necessary Activation energy

  5. Activation Energy Enzymes in Soltron lower the activation energy for reactions that break up large asphaltenes.

  6. Xmile tank desludging A proven process of internally cleaning dirty fuel oil tanks • Enzymes in Xmile reduce microbial • Soltron enzymes improve the filtration of microbial contaminated fuels • The plant that is burning the fuel can go on running while the storage tank is being internally cleaned • The fuel is stabilized and not compromised

  7. Combustion in oil-fired boilers • With a view to energy efficiency it is most economical to burn oil with low excess air (LEA) • On lowering excess air combustion becomes less complete. Increase in CO and hydrocarbons emissions. Increased particulate formation with high carbon content and increased smoke formation. LEA combustion is therefore not feasible

  8. 1 Improved boiler operation with Xmile • A clean fuel system with sustained good atomisation so that favourable LEA settings can be maintained over long periods • Improved flame radiation conditions that promote radiative heat transfer • Less energy losses in preheating combustion air because of the smaller amounts of air mass necessary for LEA combustion

  9. 2 Improved boiler operation with Xmile • Reduced deposits of particles on the heat transfer surfaces enhance energy transfer • Reduced fireside and low temperature corrosion • Overall improvement of plant reliability and service life

  10. 1 Environmental improvement with Xmile • By using energy more efficiently, Xmile will reduce some emissions proportional to the energy-saving percentage. The most important examples are CO2 and SO2 • Because of the better combustion, the emissions of CO and unburned hydrocarbons will be reduced

  11. 2 Environmental improvement with Xmile • The emission of particulate matter depends on the nature of the fuel. But with improved combustion, the emission will be reduced because of smaller amounts of carbon and sulphates. Moreover, the plume will be less visible because of lower smoke levels • Better combustion with LEA reduces NOx emissions
