Note: the default file name for first sketch is ‘s2d001’, where s means sketch, 2d means two dimensional, and 001 means the first sketch. You can use either default name or other name. When start sketching, the name can not be changed. • Straight line: • Sketch toolbar -> line (Create 2 point lines) • Using left mouse key to determine the starting & ending points. Press middle mouse key to stop drawing. • Constraints: ‘H’ means horizontal, ‘V’ means vertical, ‘T’ means tangent, etc. Constraint On/Off button. • Delete a segment: Sketch toolbar -> One-by-One -> click on the item you want to delete. Edit -> Cut/Delete. • Check Display Dimensions On/Off button, Constraint On/Off button, Display grid On/Off button, and Display Vertices On/Off button.

  2. Sketch 2 • Line Tangent – Create Lines tangent to 2 entities: • Sketch toolbar -> Line Tangent • Using left mouse key to pick 2 entities. • Constraints: ‘T’ means tangent. • Select single item: Sketch Toolbar -> One-by-One -> Click on the item you want to select. • Select multiple items: Sketch Toolbar -> One-by-One -> Press down Ctrl -> Click on the items you want to select one-by-one. • Keep one item selected and release others from multiple selected items: Press down Shift -> Click on the item you want to keep.

  3. Sketch 3 • Mouse highlight: • From left to right: Select all the items and partial item included in the area. • From right to left: Only select the items which are completely included. • Select all: Edit -> Select -> All.

  4. Sketch 4 • Centerline: • Usages: (1) represents the center location of a circle; (2) used for mirror copy; (3) used to display dimensions. • Sketch toolbar -> Centerline (Create 2 point Centerlines) • Mirror Copy: Click on the item that needs to be copied, click on Mirror button (Sketch toolbar), then choose the centerline. • Rectangle: • Sketch toolbar -> Rectangle • Using left mouse key to determine two corner points.

  5. Sketch 5 • Center and point - Create circle by picking the center and a point on the circle: • Sketch toolbar -> Center and Point • Using left mouse key to pick the center and a point on the circle. • By default the diameter is shown. • How to show radius: Click once on the circle and click the middle mouse key outside of the circle. • How to show diameter: Click twice on the circle and click the middle mouse key outside of the circle. • Concentric - Create concentric circle: • Sketch toolbar -> Concentric • Click on a circle, use left mouse key to generate concentric circle/circles. Press down middle mouse key to stop.

  6. Sketch 6 • 3 point - Create circle by picking its 3 points: • Sketch toolbar -> 3 Point • Using left mouse key to pick any 3 points to generate a circle. • 3 Tangent - Create a circle tangent to 3 points: • Sketch toolbar -> 3 Tangent • Generate a circle by using left mouse key to pick three curves/straight lines.

  7. Sketch 7 • Ellipse - Create a full ellipse: • Sketch toolbar -> Ellipse • Generate a ellipse by using left mouse key to pick the center position and one point on the ellipse. • Radii in X & Y directions can be changed. • 3-point/Tangent End - Create an arc by 3 points or tangent to an entity at its endpoint: • Sketch toolbar -> 3-Point/Tangent End • Using left mouse key to pick starting & ending points, then middle point on the arc. • How to show the length of the arc: Click on Normal, using left mouse key to pick starting & ending points, then middle point on the arc, then press middle mouse key outside.

  8. Sketch 8 • Concentric - Create concentric arc: • Sketch toolbar -> Concentric (arc) • Click on an arc, use left mouse key to pick starting & ending points of the arc. Press down middle mouse key to stop. • Center and ends - Create an arc by picking its center and endpoints: • Sketch toolbar -> Center and Ends • Using left mouse key to pick the center and two endpoint on the arc. Press down middle mouse key to stop.

  9. Sketch 9 • 3 Tangent - Create an arc tangent to 3 entities: • Sketch toolbar -> 3 Tangent (arc) • Generate an arc, use left mouse key to pick 3 entities. • Conic - Create a conic arc: • Sketch toolbar -> Conic • Using left mouse key to pick two points, and then the conic peak.

  10. Exercise • Familiar with those commonly-used sketch tools. • Familiar with those constraints appeared. • Select single item and multiple items using left mouse key. • Use left-to-right highlight to select multiple items and right-to-left highlight to select multiple items, and see what is the difference. • Know how to keep one item selected and release others from multiple selected items. • Draw following sketches using sketch tools.
