  3. A 60 YEARS LEGACY • In 1953, T.M.A. Pai founded India's first private medical school, Kasturba Medical College,and five years later the Manipal Institute of Technology was formed. The University has off-campuses in Mangalore and Bangalore, and off-shore campuses in Dubai(UAE) and Melaka (Malaysia). The Mangalore campus offers medical, dental, and nursing programs. The Bangalore Campus offers programs in Regenerative Medicine.   5. 1953 Dr. T. M. A. Pai with Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri founded a Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, 1st pvt medical college 1955 Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore opens

  6. 1957 Manipal Engineering College starts, Manipal opens 1959 School of nursing, Manipal starts

  7. 1963 Manipal college of Pharmaceutical Science, Manipal Starts 1993 Manipal Academy of Higher Education awarded Deemed University and is renamed Manipal University

  8. 1997 Manipal Institute of Communication, Manipal begins 1999 Dr TMA Pai's birth centenary stamp releases, Manipal establishes.

  9. 2000 Manipal University Dubai Campus Starts 2007 School of Regenerative Medicine, Bangalore starts

  10. 2010 World class indoor sports complex MARENA launches in Manipal and Faculty of Architecture 2013 Kasturba Medical College and Manipal Group celebrates Diamond Jubilee.

Growth and Expansion • 1961-1999 • 1961 - Full undergraduate programs were available in the areas ofMechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering andElectrical Engineering. • 1965 - The institute got affiliated to University of Mysore.More courses were added over the decades as the college expanded. • 1969 - Chemical Engineering was introduced as a branch of study followed by Electronics and Communication engineering. • - The semester scheme was adopted and a one-year postgraduate diploma in industrial engineering was offered. • 1974 - The Manipal Engineering College is renamed as Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). • - Other branches of study such as Industrial Production and Architecture were introduced. • 1993 - Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) was granted deemed university status and Manipal Institute of Technology became its constituent college.

  12. 2000 – 2016 • 2006 - Undergraduate Courses in Mechatronics were added and those in Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering were added in 2008. • 2011 - Manipal School of Architecture and Planning and Design, as a separate institute under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. • 2016 - The new logo of the institute was unveiled by alumni Nokia CEO Rajiv Suri during the institute's 2016 convocation. “MU enables students to acquire communication skills, self-directed learning skills and the ability to integrate ideas and concepts.”
