  2. Let No Man Despise Your Youth • Young Christians face many challenges today • Youth does not excuse one from proper conduct • Young people can live in such a way that they will not be despised (disrespected) • Young people can and must set the proper example for others

  3. Let No Man Despise Your Youth • Youthful respect is earned, not automatically given • Young Timothy was respected (Acts 16:1-4) • Young David would not be despised by his brothers, by Saul, by Goliath (1 Sam. 17:28-29, 31-33, 42-44)

  4. Let No Man Despise Your Youth • Be an example because your life affects others (Tit. 2:6-8) • Be an example because you are the future of the church

  5. Be An ExampleIn Word • Words are powerful things (Prov. 18:21) • Refrain from filthy words (Eph. 4:29; 5:4; Col. 3:8) … God cares (Mt. 12:36-37) • Use words to influence for good (Col. 4:6; 1 Pet. 3:15) • Avoid hypocrisy (Mt. 15:8; Jas. 3:10) • Your heart controls your tongue (Mt. 15:18)

Be An ExampleIn Manner of Life • Your daily living is important (Eccl. 12:1) • Your daily living must match a standard (Eph. 4:1; Phil. 1:27) • Your peers are looking at you (Mt. 5:13-15; Phil. 2:15; 1 Pet. 2:9-12) • Your mind must be controlled in order to control your living (Rom. 12:1-2; Phil. 4:8)

  7. Be An ExampleIn Love • Not “free love” or a “love affair”… • Love is expressed in commandment keeping (Jn. 14:15,23; 1 Jn. 5:1-3) • Love is expressed in service to others – “charity” (1 Jn. 3:15-18; 4:7-8) • Love is selective (1 Jn. 2:15-17)

Be An ExampleIn Spirit • One’s spirit (mind / attitude / disposition) is critical • A zealous attitude - you can be zealous in your service (Rom. 12:11; Rev. 3:16) • An excelling attitude - you can excel in you work for the Lord (1 Cor. 15:58) • A high attitude – you can set your mind on things above (Col. 3:1-2)

  9. Be An ExampleIn Faith • Faith in God is necessary (Heb. 11:1-3,6) • Faith shows itself in works (Jas. 2:14-26) • Faith that does not waver is important (Rom. 4:20; Jas. 1:6) • Faith that is not quenched (Dan. 3, 6)

  10. Be An ExampleIn Purity • Modest dress that does not promote impure thoughts (1 Tim. 2:9) • Pure thoughts and deeds (Dan. 1:5,8; 1 Tim. 5:22) • Avoid youthful lusts (Gen. 39:12; 1 Tim. 6:11; 2 Tim. 2:22; Psa. 119:9-11) • No deceit (1 Pet. 2:1)

  11. Let No Man Despise Your Youth • Timothy, as a young Christian, had a tried and true character (Phil. 2:22) • Do you have the same as a young Christian today?
