Work-Based Traineeship • Work-based traineeship - candidates between ages 17-23 years placed in firms as work-based trainees • Placement is usually for 1 – 3 years dependent on the skill area. • Training agent develops plan & monitors progress along qualification path leading to NVQJ certification
Work-Based Apprenticeship • Work-based apprentices are eligible for placement in firms if they: • are age 15 years and over • have completed at least grade 9 • have passed a medical examination • Placement is for period 3-5 years dependent on the skill area • Training agent develops plan & monitors progress along qualification path leading to NVQJ certification
School-Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship • Students in grades 10 and 11– can be placed in organizations for work-based practical training. • School timetable or curriculum allows a combination of work-based practical training and school study leading to a NVQJ • Skill areas include all the vocational areas now offered in technical schools PLUS

For apprentice/trainee 4) Getting a step ahead of the competition for jobs in their chosen field 5) Training is flexible and in most cases is completed on the job 6) Training has been developed by industry for industry For the employer 3) The bulk of training costs for level 1 qualifications will be absorbed HEART Trust/NTA 4) Your apprentice or trainee on completion will receive qualifications based on standards set by your industry. Training Plan provides an opportunity to select what, how, where and when skills will be achieved Must be negotiated and agreed on by all parties concerned Training Contract Formal contract to train candidates within the firm Outlines the provisions for cancellation or termination of training Key features of the new programme
Training Plan identify a timeframe by which skills should be demonstrated details the training methods assist the parties to map the apprentice/trainee’s training progress Training Contract It is agreed on and signed by all parties concerned Stipulates the period of the training within the firm/enterprise Outlines obligations of the signatories to the contract Key features of the new programme
Trainee/Apprentice Logbook The trainee/apprentice: • Keeps official record of the work experiences and tasks completed • Gets the work endorsed by employer • Produces the log when required
