  7. Sudan Peanut Groundnut Seeds comprises almost 80% of the total production of Oil Seeds in Sudan. Almost 70% of the Groundnut is grown in Western States ( Darfur & Kurdofan) (Rain fed). Exported amounts of shelled groundnuts from Sudan reduced dramatically during 1980s mainly due to : Decrease in planted area, mainly in irrigated schemes. Instability in production areas ( Rain Fed production). Quality issues ( Aflatoxine contamination). The severe international competition for high-quality groundnuts. Increased local demand. 16. WorldPeanut Production The World production of the Peanut is expected to show an increase of about 1.4 million shelled (kernels) in the season 2017/2018 compared with the last season 2016/2017. This increase is due to the fact that the estimated crops in China, India, Argentina and USA are much larger than the initial expectation. In China alone there is an increase of 10% -15% more than last season i.e. from 10 million metric tons to 12 million metric tons shelled. In India the increase is estimated to be around 1 million metric tons shelled basis. In Argentina about 100,000 metric tons shelled basis. This increase in production has put pressure on the international market prices with edible peanuts dropping from the high of US$ 1600 per metric ton to level of US$ 1250 per metric ton CNF Rotterdam basis.

  17. Conclusion The world production during the last four seasons can be summarized as follows basis shelled (kernels) in metric tons:- SeasonProduction 2013/2014 28,980,000 2014/2015 27,890,000 2015/2016 28,250,000 2016/2017 29,590,000 The contribution of Africa to the above World production ranges from 7 million metric tons shelled in 2013/2014 to 7.5 million metric tons in the season 2016/2017. About 50% of this quantity is mainly produced in Nigeria about 2.7-3 million metric tons, Senegal about 800,000-1000,000 metric tons, Sudan the same about 700,000-950,000 metric tons and the balance distributed between other countries. Out of the above production the following is being traded in the international trade and the balance is consumed domestically. About 300,000 -400,000 metric tons (actual quantity depending on the Chinese demand) as edible peanuts for snacks, oil crushing etc. The 250,000 metric tons are crushed locally & Exported in form of groundnut oil. The main destination for both products is Europe and the Far Eastern market.
