  4. News • A few points not covered elsewhere in the meeting • Phase 1 MB Decisions taken so far in 2012 • TDR • Cost book • Planning and schedule

  5. News: Phase 1 MB • (Phase 1 MB members in spare slide) • Main points since last CMS upgrade week. • Proposed a TDR outline, chapter editors (backup slide) • agreed to aim for a first draft by end 2011. • Reviewed the cost book • Provided a draft sharing between agencies and spending profile to October RRB • https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=149413 • figures for contributions a mix of target/proposed/confirmed funds • Endorsed the project to install a “pilot blade system” in LS1 • With Karl Ecklund as overall responsible and Simon Kwan coordinating hardware and integration in FPIX • Agreed on target for installation ahead of LS2 in an extended winter stop • Agreed on strategy for ROC developments for 2016 detector • Ongoing discussion on what is the best upgrade path beyond the initial Phase 1 detector • Several points to settle before the TDR • Strategy for FED upgrades, power supply replacements, scope of pre-installation tests • Identified parts that could be purchased with the first funds • e.g. sensors, optical link parts • Welcomed Finland and France as full members of the project

News: New partners • Finland • L3 half barrel with CERN and Taiwan • Aiming to make bump-bonding with VTTas commercial partner • France • Contribute to the CO2 cooling • Also interest and experience in DAQ, backend electronics • Also, UK working on a phase 1 proposal • Particular interest in DAQ

News: Costs and Sharing • Pixel phase 1 cost estimate made already in 2010 • Envelope remains fixed for time-being at 17.4MCHF • Salvatore Costa maintains trace of costs in the ‘cost book’ • Spreadsheet list of main parts and main sub-parts • Figures based on quotes or input from experts • Sharing and spending profile included • Working with agency representatives in Phase 1 MB to match costs and sharing with the proposed financial contributions • Aiming to be finalized and published in the TDR. • Chapter drafted

  8. News: Schedule and Planning • A first CMS-wide Phase 1 plan is an objective for this week • We have our draft plan targeting 2016/17 installation

Schedule and Planning (cont.) • Work-breakdown • List of main tasks has been drafted by Aaron Dominguez and Phase 1 Coordinators • One of our objectives this week is to progress further on this • Next steps: • Review/re-iterate milestone plan and main tasks • Include resources and tracking • Link with cost book and spending profile • Formal review, along with the TDR
