  4. 2016-17 Goals • Deliver the best youth hockey experience for you and your child • Generate enthusiasm and passion for the game of hockey so players return the following season • Commit to program quality and integrity • Build upon the program’s successes • New Youth Hockey Director • Goalie Clinics • Better Website Presence • and capitalize on learnings to evolve the program • Player & Coaches Expectations (new) • Improve program/team communications updates/pictures from teams • Establish and communicate clear Travel Coaches selection process (new) IHWC Youth Hockey

  5. 2016-17 Goals • Recognize that all coaches are volunteers & that effective coaching support is critical to the program’s success • Provide more coaching structure, tools, guidance, etc. to simplify the coaches’ commitment • Provide coaches training guidance on certification requirements • Continue with Goalie Development Program with dedicated goalie coaching for all ages Squirts & above • Utilize TeamSnap for Communication for all teams – standardize as central scheduling and notification tool • Establish & execute pre-season and holiday clinics conducted by Youth Hockey Director • Monitor / coordinate each team’s practices by Youth Hockey Director twice per month to drive quality execution and accountability IHWC Youth Hockey

IHWC Hockey Player’s Code of Conduct (new) • Establish clear expectations for all players program-wide • Drive accountability & empower coaches with consequences • Examples of focus areas: • recognize that hockey is a team sport • support & embrace USA Hockey & IHWC Youth Hockey Core Values • treat my teammates, opponents, game officials and coaching staff with respect at all times • attentive to coaches and instructors • value & respect precious on-ice time • respect the IHWC facilities & honor all Club policies • commitment to the team • Signed by player, parent & head coach IHWC Youth Hockey

Playing Level Overview • House: • Open to all players, regardless of playing experience; no tryouts • 2 practices, 1-2 games per week (15-20 games) • Games played as part of MYHL with some travel to Dayton, Lex, WV, or NKY • Select: • Team selected from House players by tryout (scheduled for fall) • Practices / Plays Games with House program • 10-20 games (MYHL, independent, tournaments) beyond house schedule • Travel: • Team selected by tryout: • Squirts & Bantams: Monday April 25th • Peewees: Friday April 29th • 2 practices/week; 40 games average could be more IHWC Youth Hockey

  10. 2016-17 Mite House Program • Eligibility – birth year 2008 and later, must have completed LTS program or possess basic skating skills • Divided into Mite Major and Mite Minor groups based on age & ability • We will have a Mite Commissioner who will oversee practices • Practices structured based on USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) • 4 teams based on registration and talent • IHWC practice/game jerseys provided to all players • Registration ihwinterclubhockey.com • Registration opens April 2, $100 fee for late registration after May 15 (for current members) • Scrimmages at Home will be scheduled throughout the season against other area Mite programs. Play 3-4 games outside the Club in Greater Cinti area • During the season will schedule a night to play at Cyclones Game IHWC Youth Hockey

  11. 2016-17 Mite Select Program • Eligibility – birth year 2008 and later, must be house participant • Tryout scheduled for September (date TBA) • Top 9-11 players will be selected to roster. • Mite Select games utilize Goalies for games • Mite Select team will practice with Squirt house program • Per MYHL 4 Mite Select players are eligible to be rostered on a Squirt House Roster. • Schedule (beyond House practices): • 16-20 games (within 2 hour driving distance) • 2-3 tournaments IHWC Youth Hockey

  12. 2016-17 Squirt House Program • Eligibility – birth year 2006 and 2007, open to all members regardless of playing experience. Basic Skating skills required • Practices based on American Development Model (ADM) • Based on preliminary registration numbers we will have 2 Teams playing MYHL • All registration must be completed at ihwinterclubhockey.com • Season runs Mid-October through no later than first weekend in March • Registration Opens April 2, $100 fee for late registration after May 17 (for current members) • Schedule: • 2 practices/week • 16 game season (part of MYHL) • Season ending tournament IHWC Youth Hockey

  13. 2016-17 Squirt Select Program • Eligibility – birth year 2006 and 2007 • Tryout scheduled for September • Based on interest and skillset Top 12-15 players will be selected to roster • Select players are required to play on Squirt House Team • We will communicate Date and Time of try-outs in August • Schedule (beyond House games and practices): • 10-14 games • 2-3 tournaments IHWC Youth Hockey

  14. 2016-17 Squirt Travel Program • Eligibility – birth year 2006 and 2007 • Head Coach – TBA • Tryout scheduled for Monday, April 25th 6:00-7:15p • Top 13-15 players will be selected to roster, up to 3 alternates • Independent practice and game schedule • Registration for tryouts is required ihwinterclubhockey.com • Registration for IHWC Hockey opens April 2 at ihwinterclubhockey.com if registering after May 15 there will be a late fee of $100 • Schedule: • 2 practices/week • Approx 40 games • 2-4 tournaments IHWC Youth Hockey

  15. 2016-17 Pee Wee House Program • Eligibility – birth year 2004 and 2005, open to all members regardless of playing experience, basic skating skills required • Pee Wee house program will participate as part of MYHL (Midwest Youth Hockey League) • Based on Preliminary registration numbers we will have 2 teams participating in MYHL • Registration completed at ihwinterclubhockey.com • Registration opens April 2, $100 fee for late registration after May 17 (for current members) • Season runs Mid October ending no later than first week of March • Schedule: • 2 practices/week • 16 game season as part of MYHL • Season ending tournament IHWC Youth Hockey

  16. 2016-17 Pee Wee Select Program • Eligibility – birth year 2004 and 2005 • Tryout scheduled for September • Team formation is based on demand and skillset • Top 14-16 players from house teams will be selected to roster • Required to play on IHWC House Team • We will communicate date and time of tryout in August • Additional fees apply for games, officials, and tournaments • Schedule (beyond House games and practices): • 10-14 games • 2-3 tournaments IHWC Youth Hockey

  17. 2016-17 Pee Wee Travel Program • Eligibility – birth year 2004 and 2005 • Head Coach – TBA • Top 13-15 players will be selected to roster, up to 3 alternates • Tryout scheduled for Monday, April 29th 6:00-7:15p • Teams will compete in Buckeye Travel Hockey League • Registration for tryouts is required ihwinterclubhockey.com • Registration for Youth Hockey Season opens on April 2 at ihwinterclubhockey.com with a late fee of $100 if registering after May 15 • Season starts week of Labor Day and ends last week of February • Schedule: • 2-3 practices/week (including dryland training) • Approx 40 games • 2-4 tournaments IHWC Youth Hockey

  18. 2016-17 Bantam House Program • Eligibility – birth year 2002 and 2003, open to all members regardless of playing experience • Bantam house program will participate as part of MYHL (Midwest Youth Hockey League) • Registration at ihwinterclubhockey.com • Registration will be open April 2 if registering after May 15 there will be $100 fee for late registration (for current members) • Season starts Mid October and ends no later than first week of March • Schedule: • 2 practices/week • 16 game season as part of MYHL • Season ending tournament IHWC Youth Hockey

  19. 2016-17 Bantam Select Program • Eligibility – birth year 2002 and 2003 • Tryout scheduled for September • Select team formation is based on interest as well as talent/skill-set • Top 14-16 players from house teams will be selected to roster • Additional fees apply for games, officials, and tournaments • Required to play on IHWC House Team • We will communicate try-out dates and times in August • Schedule (beyond House games and practices): • 10-17 games • 2-3 tournaments IHWC Youth Hockey

  20. 2016-17 Bantam Travel Program • Eligibility – birth year 2002 and 2003 • Head Coach – TBA • Tryout scheduled for Monday, April 25th 7:45p-9:00p • Teams will compete in Buckeye Travel Hockey League • Registration for tryouts is required ihwinterclubhockey.com • Registration for IHWC Youth Hockey Season required at ihwinterclubhockey.com • Registration opens April 2 with a late fee of $100 if registering after May 15 • Schedule: • 2-3 practices/week (including dryland training) • Approx 40 games • 2-4 tournaments IHWC Youth Hockey

Travel Tryouts • Conducted by independent evaluators & the Head Coach • Players will be evaluated on the following criteria: • Skating, Shooting Skill, Puck Control, Work Ethic, Coachability, & Hockey Sense • Initial rosters will include the top 15-17 players at each level • Attendance at Try-Outs are Mandatory to be considered • Final roster spots will be impacted by members who decide to play in other programs and decline a roster spot on one of our teams (competing travel program tryouts scheduled for mid-May) • Registration for tryouts will open up April 1 ihwinterclubhockey.com • Coaches invitations will be firmly established (TBD) • Player Acceptance Date & signed Player / Parent COC due date will be firmly established (TBD) • Non-Members Tryout fee - $100 non-refundable (NEW) • Applied to Membership Fee if player accepts & joins IHWC by Acceptance Date • 1 spot per travel team will be held (with alternate) for potential new Member IHWC Youth Hockey

Playing Up Policy • The policy places a priority on safety and age-appropriate player development • For a player to participate above their designated age group, they must be evaluated as one of the top line players (3) in their position in the age group they are requesting to play in • Requests to play up must be submitted by email and approved by Kevin Lord and Danny Wood. • Coaches alone do not have the authority to authorize a player to play up, nor do they have the authority to permit a player to tryout for a level at which he/she is not authorized to tryout by Kevin Lord and Danny Wood. • USA Hockey Policy Second Year Pee Wees are not permitted to play up into Bantams due to the Checking Component. IHWC Youth Hockey

IHWC Coaches Expectations (new) • Establish clear expectations & accountability program-wide • Take full advantage of Youth Hockey Director & related resources • Commitment to team concept and player development • Examples of focus areas: • Adhere to and embrace the USA Hockey’s Coaching Ethics Code • Take full advantage of IHWC Youth Hockey Directors expertise & resources • Meet the time requirements for practices & games • Assemble a coaching staff that shares same vision and commitment • Maintain positive, constructive approach with the players • Communicate thoroughly with players / parents throughout the season IHWC Youth Hockey

IHWC Coaches Expectations (new) • Examples of focus areas (continued): • Commit to skating development, strength & technique • Embrace proper nutrition, especially between games • Provide formal / specific individual player assessments at beginning, throughout and at end of season • Promote outside skill development made available at IHWC (power skating lessons, skating techniques, clinics, etc.) • Commit to regularly scheduled coaches meetings lead by Youth Hockey Director to assess development & opportunities for improvement • Be a visible, active member of the IHWC community IHWC Youth Hockey

IHWC Coaches Selection Process • Establish clear expectations & accountability program-wide • Candidate’s son/daughter must unquestionably be a roster player • Candidate must be willing to enforce player/parent code of conduct • Prior experience for applied level is valued but not mandatory • Work/Family commitments allow candidate to attend the majority of games/practices IHWC Youth Hockey

  28. 2016 Spring Hockey (NEW FORMAT) • Begins the week of 3/7 and runs through 4/22 • Great opportunity to keep hockey legs fresh in preparation for Travel Tryouts if applicable • 25-30 Minutes of Power Skating followed by 3 on 3 cross ice games • Danny Wood will be lead on Ice Instructor for all age groups • We suggest registering your child for the age group/level you expect them to play in next season • One night per week for each age group • Registration is open ihwinterclubhockey.com, cost is $125 • Schedule: • Mon 6:00-7:30 – Squirt Travel/Pee Wee House • Tues 6:00-7:30- High School • Thurs 6:00-7:30 – PW Travel/All Bantam Aged Players • Fri 5:30-7:00 – All Mite Players/Squirt House IHWC Youth Hockey
