  3. IndependenceNow your child has reached Juniors there will be a step up in our expectations of their independence. Children will be responsible for their own belongings e.g. ensuring they bring the correct things to school on the right days and that they empty their draws properly at the end of the day and take everything home with them. A checklist is put up on the board at home time everyday. There is a lost property box near the cloakroom which is emptied every half term. Children will be responsible for changing their reading books when required and keeping a record of the books they read. They will also need to collect their own equipment and books where necessary, including any letters to go home at the end of the day. They will gain more independence by marking more of their own work & they will be expected to be proactive in acting upon next steps set by adults.

  4. Every day items to bring to school… Named water bottle (containing only water please) Pencil case ( though we will have all the stationary the children may need in school) School rucksack (reading books, pencil cases, reply slips, homework on appropriate days etc) PE kits; shorts, t-shirt, pumps, trainers and school tracksuit - See Kay in the office to place orders.

  5. Snack In Juniors the children do not get free fruit so they are welcome to bring a healthy snack which they can eat at morning break time. PE Leisure centre Wednesday am (Mrs Higton then Mrs Morgan) and swimming Friday am with me until Christmas. Homework Reading books as normal (now that your child is in Juniors we will not be listening to them read on an individual basis as often. However, please be assured we will be monitoring the progress of their reading very carefully through activities such as group reading during ERIC time, comprehension activities during ERIC time and discrete English lessons dedicated to developing reading skills. The expectation is that your child still reads for 10 minutes EVERY NIGHT at home. Please record this in your child’s reading record. Your child also has their reading map inside their reading record whereby they can collect rewards and prizes for reading with an adult at home. We will be monitoring how often children are reading at home), one piece of Maths and English per week (CGP books), spellings and times tables. Sometimes over a half term children may be set a topic homework instead of Maths and English. See notice board outside of classroom each week for updates.
