  2. Redesign in development • Updated “look & feel” • Improved navigation Tentative release • Fall 2013

  3. Currently implementing support for ORCID in all forms of record submission. • ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes authors and supports automated linkages between professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized.

  5. Consolidation of two core DOE search enginesInformation Bridge and Energy Citations Database Transition to be completed in Summer 2013

  6. Semantic Search Enhancing search accuracy contextually…

  7. Semantic Search • OSTI’s first implementation of semantic search was used in DOE Green Energy. • With the release of SciTech Connect, OSTI is expanding its deployment of semantic search.

  8. Semantic Search • OSTI engaged in a project to develop a semantic search capability using the semantic technique, keyword-to-concept mapping. • The concept-mapped query is returned in a form that can be passed directly to our existing Lucene text-indexing search capabilities. The cornerstone A cloud-based semantic web service that: accepts keyword-based queries and returns concept-mapped queries.

  9. Semantic Search • The relations among the descriptors are: • Broader/Narrower Terms • Term pairs • RelatedTerms • otherwise-related term pairs  • Descriptors also serve as substitutes for forbidden terms. The relations between these are described as: • Used For/Use Instead • (when a particular set of descriptors is always used in place of a particular forbidden term), or • Seen For/See Instead • (when there is more than one possible substitute for a particular forbidden term, depending on the context in which that forbidden term is used).
