  1. Types of Movers Quotes - Must Know for Savings on Your Move There are three types of movers quotes when you contact the movers. Read this guide to understand what each quote entail and which should you choose for your relocation. Typically, there are three types of movers quotes that you will find when you contact the movers. Keep reading to understand what each type of moving company quote entail and which should you choose for your unique situation. Binding Not-To-Exceed Moving Estimate A true Binding Not-To-Exceed estimate is the best out of the types of movers quotes. This is because with this type of quote, even if the actual weight of your belongings is hundreds of pounds more than the original written estimate, you are still bound to pay only the amount of the estimate. And in case, your actual weight of the belongings is less than the one quoted for, then you will be paying less than the amount of the estimate. Your final bill will then be according to your actual weight times, the agreed-upon price per pound. The main benefit of a binding not-to- exceed estimate is that your bill can only get lower, not higher. Binding Estimates This type of movers quote is essentially a fixed price contract. The movers will inspect your belongings, understand your moving needs and then present you with a binding quote. Once you sign this contract, you agree to pay the fixed amount written on the binding estimate. This is the most “fair” type of movers quote if everyone is honest.

  2. With this type of quote, the long distance movers can dupe customers by highballing the estimate to get extra money for pounds that actually don’t exist. On the other, the consumer can try to deceive movers by sneaking in lots of extra items that were not included on the original estimate. This is rarely possible because the moving truck driver has the right to “challenge” the binding estimate on loading day before the actual loading starts if he believes there are changes with inventory and the moving estimate is too low. Non-Binding Estimates With a Non-Binding moving estimate, you will be charged for the actual weight of your belongings that is determined by a set price per pound. However, your final bill could be much higher or lower than the original estimate, as it will depend on the actual weight of the load. Now if the bill is higher than the quoted amount, then as per law, the movers can collect up to ten percent extra on top of the amount specified in the non-binding estimate on the date of delivery. You will then have 30 days to pay the extra amount. For example, suppose your non- binding estimate was initially quoted to be $1000, and your final bill came to be $2000. Then upon delivery, the movers can charge $1100 (the original $1000, plus the allowed 10%). You will then have 30 days to pay the balance of $100.
