  5. Where I am from • My father was William Gregor • He was an amateur geologist • He was from Cornwall, England • He found me in 1791 • He lived form 25 December 1761 to 11 June 1817

What is special about me • I am as strong as steel but 45% lighter • Its corrosion resistance and stability makes it suitable for surgical implants • For music purposes, its micro-crystaline structure is highly efficient in transferring vibration. This allows the string vibrations to be transferred to the soundboard with the least dampening and coloration by the guitar’s hardware.

What I have done • About 95% of titanium ore extracted from the Earth is destined for refinement into titanium dioxide (TiO2), as a white permanent pigment used in paints, paper, toothpaste , and plastics • One of the great things about TiO2 is that it has the ability to disinfect and clean itself when it is exposed to ultraviolet radiation. For that reason, it is used often in the medical industry • I am also used in cement and gemstones

What I have done (cont.) • Titanium alloys are very strong and durable. • Titanium is also used in cement and gemstones • Titanium is used in aircrafts, armor plating, naval ships, spacecrafts, and missiles • Sport gear like helmets, tennis rackets, and bicycles • Also in surgical instruments, dental implants. • Titanium implants can still go into MRI machines

  11. Compounds • Titanium in its +4 state it makes the compound TiO2. It is a pure white powder that is used extensively as a pigment in paints, enamels, and lacquers. It occurs in nature as the minerals brookite, octahedrite, and anatase • Another important compound is TiCl3
