  2. Exploring Writing Center Resources

  3. Who has writing centres? Grades 6-8 homeroom teachers have already received them. Grade 9 homeroom teachers will receive them this fall.

  4. What’s in a writing center? Writing centers include …

  5. In a group, investigate one of the writing center resources . You will become “experts” on that resource and prepare a presentation to give to the whole group.

  6. Discuss in your group … • what are the main reasons this resource is useful to writers? • how does the layout of the resource help the writer to access information? • what warnings/cautions might writers need to think about when using this resource?

  7. In your presentation … • … introduce your resource, including • its uses • set-up • any warnings/cautions about its use

  8. In your presentation … … represent your resource as an animal “mascot.” Create an effective metaphor to connect the two identities (e.g., a dictionary is like a chameleon because it has many forms, it blends in with other resources, etc.).

  9. In your presentation … … tell how your resource is useful in all classrooms (not just ELA).

  10. In your presentation … … use an effective medium to present your information to the whole group.

  11. Now form a group and begin.
