  1. Surface Area and Volume of Pyramids & Cones 9.3.1.1 Determine the surface area and volume of pyramids, cones and spheres. Use measuring devices or formulas as appropriate.

  2. Guiding Question: How does surface area and volume change in pyramids and cones? • Lesson Obj: I can determine the surface area & volume of pyramids, cones and spheres.

  3. Guiding Question: How does surface area & volume change in pyramids and cones? Slant height is the height down the pyramid to the middle of one side! Surface Area uses slant ht. to find the area of the triangles. Draw the net if the height is 8 cm, the slant height(s) is 10 cm, and a side of the base is 12 cm. How could you find the surface area?

  4. Guiding Question: How does surface area and volume change in pyramids and cones? • A shorter way to write the surface area of a pyramid is this P = Perimeter S = slant height B= Area of the base

  5. Guiding Question: How does surface area and volume change in pyramids and cones? If the base is not required, you want just the lateral area Find the lateral area and surface area of this one.

  6. Guiding Question: How does surface area and volume change in pyramids and cones? • To find volume • NOT SLANT HEIGHT! • Formulas

  7. Guiding Question: How does surface area and volume change in pyramids and cones? Cones are similar except the base will always be a CIRCLE. Volume: Same as pyramid except the base is a circle.

  8. Guiding Question: How does surface area and volume change in pyramids and cones? • Find the surface area and volume of this cone.

  9. Guiding Question: How does surface area and volume change in pyramids and cones? • Assignment: SA and Volume WS
