  2. The paleolithic period The first period in Prehistory is the Paleolithic Period. It began over two millions years ago, when human begans first appeared.It ended about 5.000 years before the birth of Christ, when agriculture and livestock farming began.

  3. Life in the Paleolithic • They lived in small groups and obtained their food from hunting, fishing and gathering.

  4. They were nomadic, meaning that they moved from place to place in search of food.

  5. Their homes were caves and simple huts.

  6. They knew how to use fire and made tools out of stones, bones and wood.

  7. People lived mainly on the Cantabrian coast Paleolithic paintings of animals, such as bison, horses and deer, have been found in many caves there.

  8. They made clothing out of animal skins.

  9. The Neolithic Period The second period in Prehistory is the Neolithic period. It began on the Iberian Peninsula about 5.000 years before the birth of Christ, when agriculture and livestock farming started. It ended 900 years before Christ, when writing was introduced on the Peninsula.

  10. Life in the Neolithic • They were farmers, and so planted crops and raised livestock. This made people sedentary, wich means that they lived in permanent settlements.

  11. They invented objects such as pottery, the plough, the sickle, the wheel and candles.

  12. They started using the first metals, copper and bronze, to make their tools and weapons.

  13. In the year 900 before Christ, visitors went to the Peninsular Mediterranean coasts in search of metals and cereals. They teach people how to obtain iron and sea salt, as well as writing techiniques.
