  4. History of the Cell Theory • 1830s-1855 • Nucleus is discovered • A theory is proposed that all plants and animals are made of cells • 1880-1890 • Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch study bacteria

CELL THEORY • Schleiden (German), Schwann (German) and Virchow (Prussian) all came up with parts of the cell theory • Schleiden studied plants and determined all plants are made of cells • Schwann studied animal tissues and determined they are composed of cells • Virchow theorized all cells come from other cells

  6. CELL THEORY • All living things are composed of cells • Cells are the basic unit of structure and organization for all living things • Cells come from pre-existing cells

  7. Prokaryotic Cells • Have NO nucleus • Simple cells • Mainly bacteria • PRO = NO

  8. Eukaryotic Cells • Has a true nucleus • Complex cells • Majority of organisms • EU = NUcleus
