  2. Standards of Care for Dementia in Scotland (2010) Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 Government commitment to improve the quality of care and support provided to people with dementia and their families.

  3. Promoting Excellence Framework Service Managers Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 • Describes the minimum knowledge and skills required by ALL health and social care staff. • This applies if staff are working in a person’s own home, in a day care facility or anywhere where they will come into contact with people with dementia and their families, e.g. pharmacists, clinics, and any Alzheimer Scotland facility.

  4. Staff will be working at one of the four levels: Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 • Informed Practice Level • Skilled Practice Level • Enhanced Practice Level • Expertise Level

  5. Dementia Informed Practice Level: Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 Provides the baseline knowledge and skills required by all staff working in health and social care settings including a person’s own home.

  6. Informed Level Staff: Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 • Administrators • Council Members • Minibus Drivers • National Office Staff • Non-care Staff • Volunteers

  7. Dementia Skilled Practice Level Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 Describes the knowledge and skills required by all staff that have direct and/or substantial contact with people with dementia and their families and carers.

  8. Skilled Level Staff Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 • Directors – minimum skilled level (dependant on role) • Personal Assistants •Support Workers • Volunteer co-ordinators

  9. Enhanced Practice Level: Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 Outlines the knowledge and skills required by health and social services staff that have more regular and intense contact with people with dementia, provide specific interventions, and/or direct/manage care.

  33. Skilled Level Staff Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 In order to retain Skilled Level status, staff will be required to complete 2 days of training annually.

  34. The training calendar Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 • Will be published at the end of April • We have 18 months to complete the training. • Skilled level training will start at the end of May.

  35. Enhanced Level Training Service Manager’s Away Day Stirling 3 April 2012 • Enhanced Level training will start in October • Staff at each level should have the knowledge and skills required of the preceding levels.
