  3. MEEG 3013Mechanics of Materials(Spring 2007) • Grading Policy • There will be 4 examinations during the semester and each will be worth 100 points. • Homework will have a maximum amount of points for the entire semester equal to 10% of the total points possible on the hourly examinations. • To determine your homework score for the semester, take the total number of points earned on homework for the semester, divide that number by the total number of points possible on homework for the semester, then multiply that fraction by 40.

  4. MEEG 3013Mechanics of Materials(Spring 2007) • Grading Policy • The final examination is optional, two hours in length, comprehensive, and worth 200 points. Therefore, the total number of points available during the semester is: ..Total exam points: 100 points/exam x 4 exams = 400 ..Total homework points: (Total points earned/Total points possible) x 40 = 40 ..Total points possible on final examination = 200 ..Total points possible for the semester = 640 • If there is to be a curve, it will be determined at the end of the semester and will also be applied to the final exam.

  5. MEEG 3013Mechanics of Materials(Spring 2007) • Grading Policy • Since the final examination is optional, it can either raise or lower your grade for the semester. To determine if you wish or need to take the final do the following: • Determine the total number of points needed out of 640 in order for you to get the desired grade. For example, the minimum point total to get a B is 0.8 x 640 = 512 • Subtract your total points from exams and homework from this value to determine the final exam score you need to make the letter grade you want.

  6. MEEG 3013Mechanics of Materials(Spring 2007) Grading Policy Example (assuming 100 total points possible on homework): Exam grades: 72, 68, 87, 75 u 302 points total Homework: 78/100*40 u 30 points total Total points for the semester: 332 Semester average: 332/440 u 75% Final exam grade needed for a B: (640*.8) - 332 u 180 (90%) If the final is not taken, final exam grade entered: 150 (75%)

  7. MEEG 3013Mechanics of Materials(Spring 2007) • Homework • Put name and date on all pages • Write only on one side of the page and number all pages • Staple pages together • Maximum of 2 problems per page • Write large enough that your work can be easily read • Include in the solution • Show the procedure • Show units (especially in answers) • Show all formulas used • Circle your answer • Work in an organized way • Fold homework lengthwise and put name, course, date, and student ID number on the outside.
