  2. What is a Dragon??? There are many types of Dragons around the world How do we know if a creature would be considered a dragon? A dragon is usually referred to as a large serpent with wings

  3. European Dragons • When most people think of dragons, the European is usually what comes to mind. • These dragons were thought to be the “kings of evil” • Portrayed with: • two wings • Four legs • Scales • Beowulf

  4. Naga (India) • A dragon from the Hindu culture • Many different depictions of this one mythological dragon • Polymorphous • Number of heads • This Dragon in particular considered evil • Other dragons are portrayed as wise

  5. Chinese Dragons • The Dragon is seen as wise and beautiful. • Dragons are worship on certain auspicious days • 1st and 15th days of each month • Most of the dragons are said to live in water • The Tale of the Four Dragons

  6. Japanese Dragons • In Japan, dragons are usually linked to natural disasters. • They are also shown as guards to the Gods • The dragons could also appear as mortals. • Yamata-no-orochi

  7. Egyptian Dragons • Not all were a sign of evil • The most famous is Apep • He held a grudge against Ra(the sun god ) • Apep would try to kill him every night and when he succeeded there was an eclipse
