  2. What’s New at the Arthritis Foundation Historic Restructuring Almost Complete

  3. What’s New at the Arthritis Foundation: A Growing Consumer Focus A Strategic Focus on the Arthritis Consumer New Consumer Health unit unites areas in which AF interfaces directly with target constituency groups. Guiding Principle of a Consumer-Centered Organization Understand what people with arthritis need, want and value, and tailor offerings to meet those defined needs and interests. Overarching Goal of Consumer Health To provide knowledge, resources, programs and tools that engage individuals with arthritis and empower them to improve their quality of life. New Organizational Strategic Planning Process New strategic plan will prioritize AF areas of focus and cause leadership in coming years; final plan to be presented to AF Board in November.

  4. Components of the Arthritis Foundation’s Consumer Health Focus Consumer Insights • RA, OA and JA Advisory Groups • Primary and secondary consumer research Health and Wellness Communication • Health content on arthritis.org and other AF family websites • Arthritis Today and other periodicals (RA Today, Kids GetArthritis Too) • Non-periodicals (books, brochures, DVDs, etc.) Local Health and Wellness Outreach • AF Life Improvement Series (evidence-based programs) • Educational and awareness programs • JA camps, conferences and educational programming

  5. Listening to People with Arthritis: Top Trends from Early Research • Pain: #1 barrier – and motivator • Medications: A love-hate relationship • Knowledge ≠ Action • Achievability is a motivator • Self-management : “I’ll try it if I believe it” • It’s not just physical! • Arthritis ≠ top priority Most health-care info comes from doctors and health care providers, followed by family/friends and Internet.

  6. AF’s Evidence-Based Programs:Focus on Reach and Engagement • Data analysis underway to better segment, analyze and understand current program participants. • Focus in coming year will be on targeted marketing to raise awareness and participation in EB programs. • Working with consultant to explore new delivery formats and to incorporate programs into wider-reach AF initiatives.
