Exploring Moon Phases

Learn about the first two phases of the moon each month and how they can be explained and predicted based on models and data related to the motion of objects in the solar system. This pre-assessment activity will test your knowledge on cells and their functions in multicellular organisms.

  1. Bell Ringer March 3, 2009 Describe the 1st two phases of the moon each month. m

  2. Core Content • Core Content for this unit: SC-06-2.3.1 • Students will explain and predict phenomena (e.g., day, year, moon phases, eclipses) based on models/representations or data related to the motion of objects in the solar system (e.g., earth, sun, moon).Observations and investigations of patterns indicate that most objects in the solar system are in regular and predictable motion. Evaluation of this data explains such phenomena as the day, the year, phases of the moon and eclipses. DOK 3

  3. Today’s agenda • Complete bell ringer • Pre-assessment (cells--- what do you know) • Work on assignment in class from Monday.

  4. Pre- Assessment • Do you agree or disagree with the following statements? • On your paper number 1-10. • Core Content: for this part of today • SC: 3.4.1 Students will describe the relationship between cells, tissues and organs in order to explain their functions in multicellular organisms.

  5. Statement #1 • A new cell comes from a cell that already exist.

  6. Statement #2 • A microscope is needed to see most cells.

  7. Statement #3 • Some living things do not require energy to survive.

  8. Statement #4 • Chromosomes are in the nucleus of every cell.

  9. Statement #5 • Bacteria have specialized compartments called organelles.

  10. Statement #6 • The cytoplasm determines the shape of a cell.

  11. Statement #7 • Oxygen is not required for cellular respiration.

  12. Statement #8 • A tissue is made of different organs working together to perform a job.

  13. Statement #9 • Most many-celled organisms are not dependent on photosynthesis.

  14. Statement #10 • Plant cells are the only cells that can capture light energy.

  15. Please keep all answers we will review them after we study about cells.
