  2. What is Community Led Planning? Community Led Planning (CLP) is a step-by-step process that can empower your community to take action and make your local area a better place. • different people should be able to come together, develop a shared understanding of the features and characteristics of your community and ultimately agree upon a range of actions that can be delivered for the benefit of everyone locally. • CLP is also the perfect way to prepare your community to take advantage of new ‘rights’ announced by the Coalition Government, including Neighbourhood Planning.

  3. What happens? LEAD: a framework for CLP Three groups of actors: • Communities – LEAD on the process • Community organisations – independent facilitation and brokering • Local authorities – infrastructural support

  5. Our support for CLP • Members provide nation-wide facilitative support for CLP groups • Resources to help communities undertake CLPs • Work with government to raise the profile of CLP and its relevance to current government policy • Rural Evidence resource for communities

Outcomes • Community buy in and ownership • High rates of participation • New volunteers, new community groups and renewed interest in community wellbeing • Deliberative decision making • Constructive dialogue with local authorities and other service providers • New local projects and services taken on by the community

Community Led Planning or Neighbourhood Planning? • Very similar approaches • You don’t need to start again! • If you have an existing Town or Parish Plan, it may just be a case of refreshing it • Neighbourhood Development Plans and Orders are optional and your community may feel you don’t require one.
