Tim Paine Believes Steve Smith Can Become Australia Test Captain Australia Test captain Tim Paine has supported Steve Smith, claiming that the swashbuckling cricketer is good enough to return as a captain of Australia after he ends his stint as the captain in the longer format as well. However, Paine also added that he has no plans to leave it anytime soon but he also believed that Smith is the perfect candidate for the job as well. Tim Paine’s comments came after Steve Smith had said a couple of months ago that he is ready to lead the team if he is offered a chance now. It is also noteworthy that, Paine was handed over the responsibility from Steve Smith after he was banned for two years from the roles for his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa alongside David Warner and Cameron Bancroft . Obviously, I don’t make that decision but the time I played with Steve as captain he was excellent,” Paine told Newscorp media on Thursday. “Certainly tactically he is as good as you get. Then obviously South Africa events happened and he’s not doing it anymore. But, yeah, I would support him getting that job again.”

However, Tim Paine did well as a captain and he has no plans to leave the leadership too but he stated that he is expected to do well in the game and want Australia to dominate England in the 2021-22 Ashes as well.
