India Favourites In WTC Final, Says VVS Laxman Talented India opener Shubman Gill, who is currently going through a rough patch, will look forward to get back in rhythm and he should continue to open for India in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, said the former India player VVS Laxman. Notably, Team India will play against New Zealand in the much-anticipated summit clash at Southampton from June 18 as well. “Well, I would like continuity. I think Shubman Gill is a wonderful talent, he has shown what he is capable of doing under pressure,” Laxman said in a virtual press conference organized by ‘official broadcasters’ Star Sports. “So, I would back Shubman Gill and also in the intra- squad match, he scored an 80 plus score, so that means he is in good rhythm, his rhythm is untouched here, so I would still back Shubman Gill to open with Rohit Sharma.   2. The veteran further added that Team India will start as “favourite” as they have depth, experience and talent in their squad as well. While many believe the Kiwis will have the advantage considering their recent Test series win against England, Laxman said that India’s last two Test series win against Australia and England at home will give them confidence to do well. Meanwhile, talking about another opener Rohit Sharma, Laxman added that Sharma needs to focus on his off-stump while facing the Kiwi bolwing attack. He also felt that batting well in the first innings will play a crucial role as well.
