Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia on July 28th, 1914. • Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia because the Black Hand assassinated their heir, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. • Serbia was warred on because Austria-Hungary wanted to prove their authority over the Serbians.  (The Causes of WWI, n.d.) Why did Serbia enter the war?

Russia pledged to protect Serbia, which caused them to be involved in the war.(The Causes of WWI, n.d.) • Austria Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia with 9 demands and gave them 48 hours to reply. (Austria-Hungarian Ultimatum to Serbia, n.d.) • Serbia was not willing to accept the terms of the ultimatum, causing Austria-Hungary unrest and causing Russia to declare war on Austria-Hungary.   4. The Serbian army lost 125,000 soldiers during the war. The Kingdom of Serbia lost 650,000 people which was over 27% of its total population. Long Term Effects

  5. The creation of Yugoslavia was an effect of WWI. Yugoslavia was formed as a kingdom od Serbs, Croats and Slovenes after Austria-Hungary was defeated (Yugoslavia, n.d.). Long-Term Effects Continued ("Yugoslavia Flagmap," n.d.)

  6. Global Interrelatedness: Serbia’s interaction with WWI caused the entire world to get involved in this war. The entire world played a part in this bloodshed. • Utopia and Terror: War is a terrifying concept to begin with. People were most definitely afraid and even if they disagreed, they could not speak up about it. War was declared on Serbia to make the flow of life more peaceful, because the Austria-Hungary Empire wanted Serbia to know their place. Five Themes of Global Studies

Identity and Difference: GavriloPrincip shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand because he wanted to stand up for his identity, he wanted to stand up for the people who were like him and who thought like he did.
