  4. Once you have picked an article… • On a 4x6 note card: • 1. Write the title and author (if it has one) • 2. On the second line write the URL • Then…create an identification of the current event in a concise PARAGRAPH form and include: • Who? • What? • When? • Where? • Why-potential historical significance?

An Example… “Yoshihiko Noda wins Japan leadership race” Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-14705394 The former Japanese Prime Minister, NatoKan, recently stepped down from office on August 26. He was often criticized for his mishandling of the earthquake and tsunami. Many candidates were in the running for the newly vacant position but former Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda was able to secure a victory in a run off election. His plans for Japan include rebuilding Japan and doubling the sales tax to jump start Japan’s economy. His election to office is significant because he is the sixth prime minister in five years and he stresses the importance of Japan-US security alliance.

On your map of North Carolina • Using pg. 16-17 in your textbook label the following on your map: Draw in the regions and color each a different color: -Mountains -Peidmont -Sandhills -Inner Coastal Plain -Tidewater Bordering States: -Georgia -Virginia -South Carolina -Tennessee Coastal: -Albemarle Sound -Pamlico Sounds -Outer Banks -Atlantic Ocean Rivers: -Broad -Yadkin -Catawba -Black -South -Cape Fear -Neuse -Tar -Roanoke Cities: -Asheville -Winston-Salem -High Point -Greensboro -Charlotte -Raleigh -Durham -Fayetteville -Wilmington Lakes: -Roxboro -Norman -James -High Rock

Map Activity • Color each region of the map a different color • Cut out the map of North Carolina • Paste it on a new sheet of paper in the proper form • Use pg. 456 to label the numbered COUNTIES on your map • Also, label the following cities on your map: -Charlotte -Raleigh -Durham -Fayetteville -Wilmington -Asheville -Winston-Salem -High Point -Greensboro
