An Interactive Installation by Eric Schneider Vibe
Historical Relevance • Jen Lewin, Arc Harps
Historical Relevance • Tobias Rehberger, Bungee Maze
Concept • To create a fully immersive interactive installation that utilizes sensory input and audio output • To build “dwarfing” sound sculptures in which the viewer interacts with giving audio and light feedback • An experience that mimics that of being stuck within an instrument, vibrating all around
Materials • 30 2” conductive rubber cords • 1 Arduinounow/ Mux Shield (48 A in. pins) • 30 10 kΩ resistors • 5 Breakout boards • Speakers • 30 Springs • 90 screw eyes • Black rope • Wood for platforms • Insulated wire
Pitfalls • Elasticity of rubber cord reduced • Snapping of ropes/rubber at connections • Lose connections from rubber cord to microcontroller • Crossing connections especially on rubber cord • Sculpture losing sound due to loss of elasticity
Production Schedule • February 8: Complete large scale prototype • February 12: Complete programming for large scale • February 21: Create and finish all sound files • February 26: Finish 3 sculptures (5, 1, and 4) • March 1: Connect grid of 3 sculptures • March 5: 5, 1, and 4 fully tuned and tested • March 5-install: troubleshooting any issues
Potential Install Space • Final Project: 023 gallery in the basement • BFA Show: Myhren Gallery, right side of the room
