  17. Objectives • To integrate Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM)soil moisture data into operational WAOB GLADSE. [seamless; customized] • To integrate LPRM-enhanced EPIC (Environmental Policy Integrated Climate) crop model into WAOB GLADSE. [changes] • To leverage existing GES DISC Web services to facilitate integration of project outputs into GLADSE. • To evaluate and benchmark impacts of integration of project outputs on GLADSE forecasts. UWG May 11, 2011

  18. Work Done Thus Far • SSI&T of LPRM into S4PM • Production of LPRM (L2) [Canadian user] • L3 LPRM in progress • [Assimilation of LPRM into EPIC to derive RZSM (preliminary results; task modified)] • Giovanni-Soil Moisture portal near operational • GeoTIFF (samples, using AMSR-E SM) tested by WAOB • Baselined WAOB GLADSE • Defined metrics – retrospective analysis of analog year comparison UWG May 11, 2011

  20. COOP station precipitation 3B42-V6 precipitation AMSR-E soil moisture EPIC RZSM UWG May 11, 2011

  21. Early Results • Satellite data are complementary to weather station data, in identifying analog years. • Results point to possibility of “calibrating” analog analysis methodology in station-rich areas, to be then applied in station-poor areas of the world. • Retrospective analog analysis as metric seems feasible. UWG May 11, 2011

  22. Application Project: ~Extended User Science Data Support • Customized data • Production of new data • Customized tools • Integration into user environment • Documentation of use • Documentation of benefit to user UWG May 11, 2011
