  1. March 14, 2014 • Homework: Study for test on Tuesday- Complete study guide- Review game Monday • Do Now: -Write down homework, Open notebook to pg. 88, Take out graphic organizer, Open textbook to pg. 97 Today I will… Review how fluid pressure is related to the motion of a fluid, as well as, Describe some applications of Bernoulli’s Principle

  2. Bernoulli’s Principle • The faster a fluid moves the less pressure the fluid exerts • As the speed of the moving fluid increases the pressure within the fluid decreases. • How does Bernoulli’s Principle explain the behavior of the paper from the activity? Because the air above the paper moves and the air below the paper does not- moving air exerts less pressure then still air- Resulting in the still air exerting more pressure at the bottom of the paper-pushing it up.

  3. Observe Fig. 17 on pg. 96 in Textbook *Is the fluid between the cans moving more quickly or more slowly than the air on the opposite sides of the cans? -More Quickly *How does the movement of air between the cans affect the pressure between the cans? -As the speed of the air increases, the pressure decreases.

  4. Bernoulli’s Principle is a factor that helps explain –How Planes Fly.. • Lift: is an upward force • If the air moves faster above the object, fluid pressure pushes the object upward • If the air moves faster below the object, fluid pressure pushes it downward.

  5. Bernoulli’s Principle is a factor that helps explain –How Planes Fly.. -The curved shape of the wing provides lift. The curved shape allows air to move faster over the top of the wing then the bottom exerting less pressure than the air below- creating lift -The wings are designed to produce lift. The slant - Air that hits this slant is forced downward- which helps to push the plane upward during take off

  6. Bernoulli’s Principle is a factor that helps explain –How an atomizer works…

  7. Bernoulli’s Principle is a factor that helps explain- why smoke rises up a chimney

  8. Bernoulli’s Principle is a factor that helps explain –How a flying disk glides… The faster moving air following the disks curved upper surface exerts less pressure than the slower- moving air beneath it. -Tilting it towards you when you throw it will keep it in the air longer… The spinning motion keeps it stable as it glides

  9. Label the Pressure and speed of the air
