Since its development first began in 1963, the RIBA Plan of Work has been the definitive UK model for the building design and construction process, and has also exercised significant influence internationally. The Plan of Work framework has served both the architects’ profession and the wider construction industry well, but although it has been amended over time to reflect developments in design team organisation and alternative procurement arrangements, these changes have generally been incremental rather than strategically driven. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) officially launch the RIBA Plan of Work 2013 (Tuesday 21 May. Following a comprehensive review this major upgrade ensures that the 50 year-old RIBA Plan of Work continues to reflect the very best principles in contemporary building practice. In addition to essential updates, on elements such as procurement and sustainability, for the first time some tasks can be tailored using an online tool. The first RIBA Plan of Work was conceived at a time when the regulatory framework for building design and construction, industry structures and procurement arrangements were simpler and more defined - very different from those in use today. The RIBA Plan of Work 2013 responds to the impetus provided by the publication of the UK Government Construction Strategy for the RIBA to take a leading role, and working closely with the Construction Industry Council (CIC), shape a set of unified work stages suitable for use by all the members of the project team. However, Information Exchanges will vary depending on the selected procurement route and Building Contract. A bespoke RIBA Plan of Work 2013 will set out the specific tendering and procurement activities that will occur at each stage in relation to the chosen procurement route.

On site meeting with the Client / Project Team, identifying key health and safety risks and hazards, issue of initial F10 Notification to HSE (issued at least 30 days prior to the start on site) . Assist the client with completing their CDM duties, and advising of legal duties under the CDM Regulation. Preparation of the initial draft Pre Construction Health and Safety information , Reviewing the contents of the current the Health and Safety File held on-site if applicable. Strategic Definition / Preparation and Brief 0/1. Meet with the Client / Project Team, to review the Clients brief, advising of information that may be required, and information that is already available. Identification of key dates or constraints. Concept Design 2. Meet with the design team to review / evaluate and comment on all drawings / details that have been produced, highlighting areas of concern with regards to health and safety / buildability and on-going maintenance, prior to the Submission of the Planning Application. Providing feedback to the client with regards to Health and Safety / maintenance issues. Requesting all initial designer risk assessments. Developed / Technical Design 3/4. Meet with the design team and all other parties involved to review any design changes that may have taken place from the conceptual design phase. Requesting all revised / updated designer risk assessments.

OHS CDM Knowledge Chain™ B Review / Tender Issue / Tender Evaluation / Contractor Appointment Review of selected Tenderers Confirm with the Client that those tendering meet the requirements of Stage 1, together with collectively reviewing the Principal Contractors past experience, capabilities, previous performance with regards to Stage 2. Tender Issue Update and issue the Pre Construction Health and Safety information for inclusion within the Tender package. Tender Evaluation Assist the Client / Project Team with the evaluation of the tender packages, with regards to the health and safety contents. Contractor Appointment Update of the F10 Notification, on site meeting with the PC (Principal Contractor) to discuss current site constraints. Appraisal and approval of the Construction Health and Safety Plan (CPHSP), advising the Client that it has been suitably developed and that the welfare facilities meet the standards set out in Schedule 2 of the ACOP (actual site set up details required and not just a statement) and providing a letter of approval to the Client.

OHS CDM Knowledge Chain™ Construction 5 C Collation of the Health & Safety File Construction 5.  Update of the F10 Notification, on site meeting with the PC (Principal Contractor) to discuss current site constraints. Appraisal and approval of the Construction Health and Safety Plan (CPHSP), advising the Client that it has been suitably developed and that the welfare facilities meet the standards set out in Schedule 2 of the ACOP (actual site set up details required and not just a statement) and providing a letter of approval to the Client. Actively maintain contact with the Client , Project / Design Team and Principal Contractor throughout the duration of the works and Review / evaluate and comment on any significant design changes. Issuing the Principal Contractor with the Draft requirements for the Health and Safety Files. Health and Safety File C. Meet with the Principal contractor prior to completion to assess the contents of the Health and Safety file. The CDMC will issue the Health and Safety Files to the Client, providing written confirmation and discussing on-going storage requirement's.
