  2. Origins of 5 Religions. • Each religion has originated in a different place. These are: • Hinduism has no actual founder: It was a sub-religion based off of Brahminism. • Buddhism originated in northern India or southwestern Nepal. • Christianity originated in Nazareth as Christianity is based off of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. • Judaism was originated in ancient Canaan, now known as Israel. • Islam was originated in ancient Arabia, more specifically Mecca. Muhammad founded this religion, along with help from Khadijah and his foolowers.

  3. Artwork or Architecture • Each religion also has important artwork/architecture. This includes: • The Christian cathedral, known as the Vatican, In Vatican City. • The Buddhist monument of Borobudur. • The Jewish mezuzah, a tiny case holding a scroll in Yiddish. • The Hindu syllable, called the Aum. • The Islamic Five Pillars, which are the goals that each Muslim must achieve.

  4. Food Practices Each religion has it’s own food practices and restrictions: • Halal food is the permitted food of Islam, and is Islam’s food practice. Muslims cannot eat foods like pork, blood, birds of prey, and land animals without external ears. • Kosher is the permitted food of Judaism, and the matzo is a reminder of the holiday Passover. • Buddhist monks teach themselves to be satisfied with little material things, and that includes food. Eating actually intervenes with their meditation. • Hindus do not have any specific food practices, but they do fast. Fasting is a general religious practice which involves not eating or drinking anything at all. • Christianity does not have many food practices, but some are Holy Communion, (the flat, matzo-like bread, which is believed to be the body of Jesus Christ) and the holy time of Lent, during which every Friday meat is not allowed to be consumed.

  5. Famous People • Every religion has it’s followers, and its leaders. This will showcase some • Some famous people who follow Buddhism are Jackie Chan, Tina Turner and Tiger Woods. • Chan Akya, Ashoka Bardhana, and Tulsidis are some famed leaders of Hinduism. • The First Judge Samson is one famous person who led Christianity. • Abraham and Moses are some very important figures in Judaism, and led the Jews on very important journeys. • Some of Islam’s followers and leaders include Abu Bakr, Khadijah, and the leader himself, Muhammad.

  6. Population • Here is a record of the religious population of the world. • Christianity’s population is about 2.4 billion. • Islam’s population is about 1.82 billion. • Judaism is approximately 6, 277,000 followers. • Buddhism’s population is 376,000,000 followers. • Hinduism’s population is about 837,000,000 followers.

  7. Where is it Practiced?? • Each religion has it’s own area of worship, or culture area. These could vary, sometimes slightly, sometimes radically: • Buddhism is practiced mainly in East Asia, Southeastern Asia, and some parts of South Asia. • Christianity is practiced in Europe, Northern and Southeastern Asia, South and North America, and Africa. • Hinduism is practiced in many countries, but is mainly practiced in India. • Judaism is practiced mainly in Israel. • Islam is practiced around the world after being widespread from the Arabian Peninsula.

  8. How is it Practiced? • Each religion is practiced in it’s own way, but you probably knew that. • Islam is practiced in different ways. Some include praying 5 times a day, making yearly charity donations, and yoga. • Buddhism practices include fasting, meditating, and going on spiritual pilgrimages. • Some Christian practices include Sunday services, the seven sacraments, and praying the rosary(for Catholicism) • Hindu practices generally revolve around pleasing their god, otherwise known as Shri Ramji or Vishnu, which includes praying to statues in his honor. • Judaism is practiced in many ways. For instance, they pray as soon as they wake to thank God for letting them wake up. They also go to three services(in groups of 10 people) and pray.

  9. Similarities All Religions Islam and Judaism The people who formed the religions both received messages from God. Both religions require constant praying. • All 5 religions are monotheistic, believing in only one God. These gods are God, Allah, Buddha, and Vishnu. • All religions share the belief of Heaven and Hell.

  10. Similarities, continued Hinduism and Buddhism Christianity and islam Both religions were not accepted when they were first presented. Both believe in a future resurrection of the Messiah. Both believe that God ascended into Heaven. • Both religions require fasting to hone their bodies and minds.

  11. Similarities, continued, again Judaism and Hinduism Judaism and Christianity Both believe in the same god. Christianity was based off Jewish beliefs. Both believe in a Biblical prophecy. Both believe in the Father, Son, and The Holy Spirit, though Judaism thinks of the Holy Spirit as a special power. • The Aum and the Talmud are two famous writings of the religions, and are common in the 2 religions. • Both pray to please God.

  12. End. We hope you enjoyed this!!!!!! Art of the 5 major religions.
