  1. The Chinese World Edward Gr7W

  2. Fan Dancing • 3rd February 2012 • Laban’s method Time (Speed) Fast-Slow Weight Heavy-Light DirectionDirect-Indirect

  3. Me trying Laban Fan Movement

  4. Tai Chi • 6th, February 2012 • I learned about basic form of Tai Chi, which is Chinese traditional martial arts, and I created some Tai Chi movement in group. (Juho, Tony, and I)

  5. Create our own Tai Chi • Calm breathe– It is position which relax oneself, and calm down. • Tiger push – Push enemy’s chest, and make enemy fall down.

  6. Create our own Tai Chi • Flow shield & punch – It is position which flow opponent’s punch and counter against enemy. • Defense & kick – It is movement which attack enemy with foot, and it also protect head with one arm.

  7. Create our own Tai Chi • Twist & Punch – This movement twist enemy’s arm, and give counter punch. • Dance of double hand – This movement is strong attack which hit enemy’s stomach with two hands.

  8. Strengths • Our movement was serious which made our movement better. • Our movement mixed various kind of action well, such as kick, twisting arm, protecting, and using hand move. • My group moved together, and it was good to see. • I made some good ideas about some movement, such as dance of double hands, flow shield, and tiger push.

  9. Weakness • We needed more practices before performance • It could be better if we changed our start(breathe) because almost every group had same • We had some mistakes and I was little bit confused about what was our movement • We needed to be more slow, and calm, because our martial art was like fighting.

  10. How can I improve? • Our group could improved if we practiced more (It seems Juho made mistake, but it wasn’t. Tony made mistake, and I had to follow him!) • I could improved if we perform more seriously because I grinned while performance. • Our group could improved if we slow down. Because kick was too fast, I think it wasn’t really similar with Tai Chi which is slow and smooth. • I could improved when I could think of new starting movement, because most group start with calm breathe!

  11. How can I use feedbacks? • From Mrs. Rankin, she said our performance were good to watch and serious, and I will try to make my performance better by harmonize movement more smoothly and be more serious. • Mrs. Rankin mentioned about Juho’s mistake, and I’m sorry to him because I had to tell him more specifically about movement before performance, and I will try to finish project faster and increase more time to practice.

  12. Peking Opera • 10th, February, 2012 • What is Chinese Opera? Many ideals of Chinese culture • What are the main characters? The main characters are male, clown, female, military men, generals, young man. • What marks a clown and why? Clown has white paint on his face nose and eyes. • What do these colours represent - Red, Black, Blue, Gold, White • White represents honesty, goldrepresents supernatural beings, blue represents Philosophy,

  13. Peking Opera • What is the orchestra made up of? Orchestras are percussion, wind, stringed musical instruments • Describe one of the sets? Moon shaped guitar is one of the sets in orchestra. • What are 3 points about costume? Costume of wealthy people is colorful and fancy, while poor people wears simple clothes. Imperial people wears colorful and complicated costumes, but people in low rank wear simple costumes. Costumes are valuable. • What do students learn in the academy? They learn developing voice, they start to train when they are age of 10, learn all the movements in Peking Opera, such as flipping and jumping from high place.

  14. Peking Opera • What do you like about Chinese Opera - 3 points I liked colorful costumes and beautiful movement of actors, and united movements. • What didn’t you like about Chinese opera - 3 points I didn’t like high and loud voices, and I couldn’t understand plot of Peking Opera, and I also didn’t like makeup, because I think it was overusing.

  15. Action Plan • 13rd, February 2012 • Investigate – Research – Internet, theblackbox.weebly.com, videos; Discussion: Workshops which look at Tai Chi and Fan Dancing • Plan – Brainstorming, come up with ideas – explore and experiment; documenting the process • Create – Organize the performance; work out the steps; documenting the process; rehearse the performances; Props; Costumes • Performance • Reflection and Evaluate

  16. What did we do? • Became group with Juho and Tony • We brainstormed our idea for performance • Decided to do “Tai Chi” • Made a few movement

  17. Movement we’ve made

  18. Strengths • Our movement was very serious. • Movement is slow, and very calm. • Because it is very simple and containing ‘real’ Tai Chi movement, our performance will show original Tai Chi. • Because our movement is made for real fight, it will be very good to see, and beautiful.

  19. Improvement • Even though our movement is calm and good to see, our performance can be ignored because another team used a lot of kick and tough movement. • If we can make it more splendid, it will be better. • We need more practice, because even I forget about our movement even though I made it! • We need to research more about harmony of music and movement.

  20. Feedback • Tony – Don’t you think it is hard to follow? >>> I will make it more simple, but better to watch. • Tony - Music is really good, though. >>> It is true. Problem is how to harmonize. • Juho – See Geon’s team! It is so fancy! >>> We will add more splendid movement at last. • Juho – In my opinion, last project was better… >>> I agree. I think it is due to beauty of project. I didn’t thought beauty can effect this much.

  21. Communication • I tried to communication with my partners effectively by using English, sharing good information about new movement for new project “Tai Chi”. • Our communication was quite successful because we could decide few movement, however, there are still more works to do!

  22. Video Tai Chi Move 1 17th, February, 2012

  23. Tai Chi Move 2 • 20th, February 2012 • We added some movements, and did some practices.

  24. Strength • Our movement was very good to see • Our teamwork is becoming better and better. • We fitted our movement with music. • Our movement has almost finished, and we are quite fast.

  25. Weakness • Our movement was little bit fast. • Synchronicity did not worked well… • Some of us forgot our movement during practice. • Movement is little bit seems like overlapping.

  26. Principle to be honest • Even though it is allow to refer some movements or idea, but we should not copy movement from another team or Tai Chi video because we are creating our own movement.

  27. Feedback • Movement need to be slower - William • Good movement and idea - Amy • Need more synchronized action - William • Need to be more serious - Kevin

  28. Tai Chi • Creating Task (Criteria C) 24th,February 2012 • What were your strengths? • My strength was leadership. I led group and created some movements, and when group became little bit lazy, I persuaded them to practice:) • What were your weakness? • My weakness was think out new idea, because at first, I thought out good move, but as time passed, my idea ran out… Also, I failed to put level on our movement.

  29. Tai Chi • What could you improve on? Explain. • I could improve on research about music and movement, because I think I overlooked power of research (?) after I realized that our music and some move could be much better. • How did you use your feedback to help you? • I tried to do performance more seriously, and fixed some movement, and it made me to perform my Tai Chi move better.

  30. Tai Chi • How did you use research? • I used research to find good music that fit with our movement, and we saw some videos, and tried to mix them to make good move.

  31. After Performance - Tai Chi • 27th, February 2012 / Group evaluation • Charles, Kevin, William, and Hitomi’s group • Strengths • - Their movement was good • - Idea was very brilliant, and movement fitted with music. • Weaknesses • There was no synchronized action • Some of member confused their movement.

  32. Marking myself • My score according to Criteria B – 9 • I created a lot of creative movement • Used costume effectively • Used a lot of levels and movement • Documented process of our creating well.

  33. Mark our group member • Tony – 8/8 • He showed a lot of interests on our project, and he got costumes of our performance. • Juho – 8/8 • He engaged on our performance and practice a lot, and he did really good jobs, such as putting level and edition of movement. • Me – 8/8 • Even though it is little bit ashamed to say myself is 8 out of 8, I think I’ve done quite good job and most of movements were created by me. • Result – Our group members were fantastic

  34. Final Reflection • Overall project was very successful. Group was good, quality of performance, and everything seems to successful to me. Our group tried our best to make level and more beautiful movement, and except for some movement, we succeed to make our action synchronized. However, there were some bad points, too. Our group needed more time to make our movement better. (I heard a kindergarten boy laughed at us, it was kind of impact.) I used my feedbacks as good teacher, and I changed and added some movements. However, I was little bit not satisfied after performance because I felt like ‘I could do it better’, or ‘I made mistakes’. I will try to do more practice, and make more synchronized action with group.
