  10. Students are expected to:

  11. 1) Arrive on time and sit in their assigned seat to be marked present.

  12. 2) Bring a pencil, calculator and notebook every day.

  13. 3) Have an effective system for organizing hand-outs, labs and note taking.

  14. 4) Have the work habits of an honors student. This course may require extra work, initiative, independent studying and study groups .

  15. 5) Do your homework. Homework will be checked for a grade on a pre-announced day.

  16. 6) Complete work missed due to absences, field trips, rehearsals, college trips in a timely manner.

  17. Grading

  18. Your grade will be based on tests, quizzes, labs, homework and projects. Every assignment in class and out may be considered for grading, although not every assignment is included in the average. I compute an average by taking the total points you earn in the term and dividing by the total number of possible points.

  19. Test and quizzes are worth from 5-100 points depending on level of difficulty for approximately 60-70% of the total grade

  20. Homework will be worth approximately 10 – 15% of the term’s grade.

  21. Homework grading is based on timeliness and completeness.

  22. “Can I bring it in tomorrow for partial credit?” – The answer is no.

  23. Lab work and reports are approximately 20- 25% of the term grade.

  24. Special projects will be assigned points as appropriate

  25. It is the students responsibility to be sure that all assignments are handed in and missed work is completed.

  26. Extra Help

  27. I will gladly give extra help after school or during free blocks. Typically I am available Tues-Thursday. It is best to arrange this beforehand by speaking with me or sending an email. However, drop-in visits are fine. I generally will be in room 220 immediately after school. Note that my desk is in the science office, room 209.

  28. Book

  29. The book must be returned in good condition or you will be charged full value. It is expensive (~$120). I recommend keeping at home, It will not be needed in the classroom.

  30. Calculators

  31. Students should get an inexpensive, easy to use calculator. It is your responsibility to know how to use it. It should be able to handle scientific notation (ex: 3x104, look for an EE/EXP button) and basic trig functions (sin, cos tan) Graphing is not needed. Bring it to class every day.

  32. Electronics

  33. School rules for cell phones and other electronics will be enforced. Unless I tell you otherwise that day, portable electronics are not to be used in the classroom. If a device is seen or heard when it is not appropriate, it will taken until the end of the school day

  34. Seating

  35. Seating is per the seating chart and may be changed at various times during the year.

  36. Lab work

  37. We will do a significant amount of lab work. Proper safety procedures must be followed at all times. Lab sheets, reports or questions are due on the requested date. Late labs lose points per day. It is the student’s responsibility to make up missed labs in a timely manner.
