  2. State Standards • North Carolina Standard Course of Study • NC Goal 1.01.11 Conduct interviews or view videotapes, and create presentations about interesting people. Evaluate finished products. Create a bibliography. • NCGoal 1.05.2 Provide opportunities for students to listen, read, and experience materials in variety of formats asking students to compare and contrast characteristics of each. • NETS-S National Educational Technology Standards for Students Profile for Technology Literate Students • Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, Web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom. (3, 4) • Use keyboards and other common input and output devices (including adaptive devices when necessary) efficiently and effectively. (1)

  4. Aim/Objective • To explore the methods of recording and sharing individual experience. To use techniques to collect short biographies of students and community members for presentation.

  5. Essential Questions: • How do we gather information about a person’s life? • What are some ways to learn about people in the community? Motivation • Who are some people in your community that you would like to learn about?

  6. Vocabulary • Interview • Journalist • Reporter • Recording • Documentary • Biography • Autobiography

  7. How do we gather information?(Development) Types of Interview -written -audio recording-record voice -video recording-record voice and image Which one do you like best? Why?

  8. Dos Minutos-You’re a Reporter(Independent Practice) • Points before showing: • Listen Closely to the interview • Write down 3 facts or important details about Nana “La Sugar” on your paper

  9. You’re a Reporter(Medial Summary) • After showing: • Turn to the student beside you and share what you wrote • Class sharing and list on board • What was the type of interview with Nana? Explain.

  10. Ways to learn about people in the community • Examples • Newspaper Article • TV interview • Book • Documentary • Which one did we just use to learn about Nana? • Show printed interview example • Compare and Contrast with Dos Minutos

  11. Notes/Reflection • If you could ask another question what would you want to know about about Nana? • Do you have any things in common with Nana or her community? • Who are some community people you would like to know more about and why? • What would be the first steps to begin an interview?

  12. Homework & Extension Activities • Option 1 • Pick a person in your community and write 5 questions you would like to ask them. • Interview person and take notes • Option 2 • Write 5 questions that a reporter should ask you to learn about your life • Exchange with partner and interview each other and take notes • For Both • Type into Microsoft Word and insert images that relate to interview. Present to class.
