  1. 1 Peter 4- It’s Not About Us

  2. (1-6) Peter is wrapping up his letter and finalizing the encouragement to continue in godliness and holiness even if there could be suffering in the present. Setting aside our own comfort and happiness for the sake of the name of Christ is the mark of His life being most important to us and His resurrection having begun in our own lives. Everything is always about being morelikeHim.

  3. (7-11) The young church placed a great deal of emphasis on the use and expression of the HolySpiritgifts. Everyone in God’s family has been empowered by His life in them to express the love of Christ in a special and meaningful way to those around them that will ultimately glorify.

  4. (12-16) There is a difference between suffering for being a Christian (whether directly or for a value/priority directly related to Christ) and suffering for doing something wrong. Being a Christian doesn’t make everything we say or do automatically God-ordained or inspired. The discipleship of following Christ precedes the suffering imposed on His life in us and then propels it to even greater fruitfulness.

  5. (17-19) Peter encourages the church as a whole to endure, persevere, and trust that God is good and wise in all things. He will sustain them with peace beyond understanding, joy that is greater than comfort, and hope that will not be disappointed.
