  1. A.G.M. 5th June Worcestershire Association of Governors

  2. www.waguk.org • WAG exists to represent the views and opinions Governing Bodies in membership, being all state funded Schools in Worcestershire to the County Council and the Government. Over the years we have succeeded to the point where WAG is approached whenever anybody wishes to gauge governor opinion on any relevant issue in the county. • Aims • To assist governing bodies in protecting and promoting education in Worcestershire schools; • To encourage and, where possible, to facilitate communication between governing bodies • To provide a vehicle for expressing and representing the collective views of governors and governing bodies in Worcestershire; • To further good working relationships between governing bodies, the Local Authority (LA), and other relevant bodies; • To maintain affiliations to the National Governors Association and with other relevant groups as decided by the executive Committee. • To liaise with the LA on key issues in education and in the provision of governor training.

  3. WAG Developments • Since last year we have: • Consolidated our HQ at THE STABLES • Have direct channels of communication with LA via Service Manager : Catherine Crooks and her team. • Increased the attendance at our Networking events. • Forged links with Worcestershire Association of School Business Managers WASBM. • Childrens Trust Executive Board , CETB – LCT’s I will refer to this later. • Continued to develop the website and its content. • Included all Headteachers into our database along with members.

  4. Chairs Activities Report • The pundits and press have much speculated on the severity and direction of the fiscal cuts we can expect, that Education budgets will be affected is beyond doubt. I believe the pressures on WAG and Governors will increase substantially and rather than adopt a ‘slash & burn’ stance we should ‘dig in & learn’. By that I mean we should ‘dig in’ and stand fast and bring our not inconsiderable experience and competencies to the forefront, for the good of our schools and education in Worcestershire. • By ‘learn’ I mean we should keep an open mind set to the challenges ahead. We must learn to adapt and work with the L.A. and other Stakeholders, as an Independent body, whilst maintaining statutory duties and functions. • Malcolm Richards September 2010
