analysis • Unlike thrillers ans horrors, from the start of a war film, especially this war film we know exactly whats happening as its based on a true story. The target audience for a film like this would most likely be 20-80 the age range would be so much larger than most because the story being told is one that everyone knows about and one that many of the older genoration have actually experienced. The key conventions used are the use of guns and weapons along with the distruction to society that war causes shown by the soldiers wandering through an abandoned town. We don’t know anything about the characters apart from the fact they arec english soldiers, but this amplifies the idea of war, not caring who nis who they were all fighting for the same thing. The camera work at the beginning stayed at a wide angle from behind the soldiers, not showing us there faces probably because they were going to be killed. The sound was peaceful at the beginning building up to the loud attack of gunshots making it more unexpectyed for the audience and taking us by surprise much like it took the men by surprise. This is a very successful opening scene.
