  1. Deadpool Movie opening

  2. Deadpool info • Main Cast- Ryan Renolds • Director- Tim miller • Studio- Disney (Marvel specifically) • Year- 2016

  3. Initial notes • Straight away we see a sense of danger, he is sat on a high bridge • Connotations of danger with the red coloured suit and the weapons on his back • We see a close-up shot of a drawing of what looks like the man shooting someone, implying that he is fantasising about violence. • The music that’s playing says the words ‘you're a shotgun BANG’ adding to the theme of danger and violence. • We see an example of an archetype of a good guy and a bad guy, this is a typical convention of an action movie. • The 'bad guys’ are travelling in all black cars and at a high-speed creating a clear image that are the enemy but also using a stereotype, so the audience know who they are straight away. • We then get the expected appearance of violence, cars crashing and conflict starting to emerge, clearly showing us from early in the movie what to expect. • The one man v a team of men, is a typical convention for action films and we see that presenting in this. movie opening, it makes the character we are meant to be siding with appear cooler and more likeable. • The slow-motion sequences during the fast pace action scenes emphasise the events that are happening and help the audience get a clearer view, but also add a slightly comedic element.

  4. analysis • It's clear from the start of the introduction the narrative is going to be a typical action film, there will be conflict, violence and somewhere along the way a love affair or romance. Although this film is dominated by violence and action scenes its sub-genre is an action comedy and this is clearly shown through the constant narration from the main character, even just in the opening sequence Deadpool is commentating to the audience and breaking the fourth wall with comedic statements, this would appeal more to a younger audience from the ages of around 16-35 as it breaks the typical standards of an action film. The key conventions that can be seen in the opening scene are things such as the typical car chase and cars crashing, good vs bad and the constant shooting of guns. The only character we are really introduced to in this opening sequence is Deadpool (Wade as seen on his radio) however we don’t find much out about him, the dialogue he has is brief, but he does say the words ‘people I have to kill’ connoting that killing these men is his job giving us an insight to his life. • The music that is playing during the action scenes are your classic dramatic underscores contrasting to the very opening scene whereby we hear an upbeat light-hearted song playing, creating a divide between the different atmospheres. The main editing techniques represented in this opening sequence is the slow-motion shots of the cars flying, these have been used to slow down the fast pace of the scene and give the audience time to process all the action that is happening, but also have been put in place to create comedy and a sense of light heartened amongst all the violence.
