Our Philosophy on Math Facts • Students work on a few facts at a time • Students work at a just right level for them • Students need to understand the why instead of just simply memorizing • Students need to practice mastered facts so that they don’t forget them • Even if you have an upper grades student don’t forget about addition/subtraction facts

Ideas for Practicing Facts at Home Use apps – see the handout Use math fact cards to play war If you don’t have math fact flashcards use an uno deck or a regular deck with face cards removed Play uno but in order to play on your turn you have to add/subtract/multiply/divide the two number cards together

  14. Trust the Process • There are many ways you can support your mathematician at home • Counting money • Playing games • Math Facts • Cook together and talk about fractions • Trust your teacher to teach the strategies and to help your child with conceptual understandings
