Sort the stories into categories, as below: What are the majority of the stories about? Unit 16: What’s in the news?

Do you recognise any of the people or places in the news stories? Has your school been mentioned in the local news recently? Do any of the issues in the local news affect you or your friends and family? Unit 16: What’s in the news?

Things which would make good news stories are: new teachers or pupils fundraising events current projects sports or competitions school plays or concerts Create a mini-newspaper or radio broadcast containing the latest school news. Note down the names of the roads which are affected and then look them up on a map or in an atlas. What are the reasons given on the traffic news for these roads becoming blocked?
